Windows 7 Installer not detecting HD - Asks to load driver - Still not detecting HD

I bought a Windows 7 Home Premium copy today to install in my new assembled computer.

I'm installing the 64 bit version but I'm stumped when it can't detect HD.

My config:

Intel i-5 750

Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L

Corsair 2X2GB DDR3 1333 Mhz

WD Caviar Green SATA Hard Drives 1 TB

The BIOS recognizes the Hard disk. And I set the SATA up in AHCI mode with Native SATA enabled.

Then I started installing Windows 7. When it reaches the Select Hard Drive part, it doesn't detect any hard drive. I'd copied the SATA controller Drivers to a USB drive from the motherboard DVD before this and inserted the USB.

I browsed to the 64 bit version and clicked OK. It displayed one driver (PCH AHCI) and I selected it and clicked next.

After this I was taken back to the Hard Disk selection screen and it still didn't detect anything.

The Motherboard DVD had two different drivers for this, IMSM and GSATA. I tried both. Same thing happened.

After this I rebooted, went to BIOS setup and changed the SATA mode to IDE.

This time, it still failed to detect the hard drive.

Any fixes?? I'm stumped. I've spent more than 80 thousand on this rig and the Windows and I'll be damned if this doesn't work efficiently.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Windows 7 Installer not detecting HD - Asks to load driver - Still not detecting

more than 80 thousand ... that's a lot

now about problem ... I suggest you to try any live linux or ubuntu distro to check you HDD detection first.

Once detected in linux ... boot from Win7 DVD and go to repair your computer and tools ... open command prompt and run command "diskpart"

in "diskpart" run "list disk" ... if your hdd is detected correctly then it will be listed here.

If still not detected then ... make sure HDD is plugged to SATA2 ports provided by Intel ... numbered as SATA2_0 to SATA2_5 and download this drivers ... http://download.gigabyte.asia/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_intel_sataraid_irst.exe

and load during installation.

If Intel SATA doesn't work then go for Gigabyte SATA ... plug hdd to GSATA2_0 port and load drivers ... http://download.gigabyte.asia/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_gsata_bootdisk_64_5series.exe

and try again.

Re: Windows 7 Installer not detecting HD - Asks to load driver - Still not detecting

I guess the HD IS plugged into the SATA port as its being detected in BIOS.

I don't know WHICH it is plugged in though. I'll check and see..

Thanks for the tip.

EDIT: UPDATE

I couldn't get my hands on any open source OS due to lack of an efficient internet connection. I however decided to use a bootable partitioning software to check my HD.

It displayed my HD properly. So I proceeded to delete the single partition and created two new ones.

Now, I've rebooted the computer and the Windows 7 Setup is loading. I'll update back if Windows installer detects it now.

EDIT 2: UPDATE 2

It worked partially.

Now the installer can detect the Hard Drive and the partitions. But it can't install Windows onto any one of them.

The error message is as follows: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I deleted the partitions and then created new ones directly in the Windows Installer after this. But again it couldn't install to any of the partitions and the error I received was same.

Any help would be welcome guys. Thanks.

UPDATE 3

I made it work. The problem was that the Windows Installer was getting confused with the USB drive I had connected to the computer earlier to install the SATA AHCI drivers. I removed it and rebooted the computer and the installation proceeded successfully.

It is now installing Windows and I doubt I'll be facing any more problems. And if I do, they'll be unrelated to what I initially created this thread for.

MODs can now lock this thread. Thanks.
