i have got a dell 17" crt monitor with an nvdia 9600gt with the latest driver. as u all know the native resolution of a 17" monitor is 1280x1024 but windows 7 does not allow me to go beyond 1024x768. when i go into the display settings it gives me just two options 800x600 and 1024x768.it says that 1024x768 is the recommended resolution for my display.plz help:huh:

Try lowering the refresh rate. Thats the only option that i see. And 1024x768 is the most optimal setting for that monitor i guess?

install new nvidia driver and go to advanced setup of control panel...u can choose so many ranges of resolution

As suggested by others, install the latest nVidia drivers for windows 7 & also lower the monitor refresh rate to 60hz to get the 1280x1024 resolution on a 17" CRT....
Refresh rate can be found under Display properties and advanced settings....

Find LCD Monitor driver cd. and install the drivers for you LCD.

Go to display property > Advance > Monitor > Properties > driver > Update Driver > etc. etc.

this resolution issue has two known reasons..

1) refresh rate

2) secondary display

if refresh rate is set to minimum and you still facing the problem.. then open nVidia control panel and disable the secondary output (or select the option to use different settings on both)

you should be able to chane resolution after this.

old versions of windows7 have the same issue...i had it when i used windows7 beta from MS site..updates of drivers and files will not work in old versions

and also install monitor driver

the minimum refresh rate is given as 75hz. even on this i cannot crank 1280x1024.i hv the latest drivers for my gpu . i was able to get get 1280x1024 at first but when i installed the nvidia driver i was surfaced with this issue. i nkow its the driver.can anyone help?
