Windows Windows 7 SP1 performance query

Guys,
I am using windows 7 and 8.1. Both of them are installed from the original ISO without any updates. IN windows 8.1 rarely i get BSOD when shutting down my system and windows 7 is always slow. Initially i was using win 7 SP1 ultimate x32 and i thought that the 64bit version of the home premium will be ultra fast as i am using the H97 PRO with i5 4460 + Corsair 4GB . But i was disappointed to find that win 7 HP x64 is even sluggish and i find win 8.1 better. But for some programs and compatibility and for games to run better i need windows 7 x64bit.

Kindly tell me if i install a version of windows 7 sp1 with integrated updates upto May 2015 will solve the issue. I have not installed any updates in windows 8.1 and its running smooth. The version of win 8.1 which i have is the one which was released during december 2014. Both the x32 and x64 versions of 8.1 runs well. The only issue is for some unknown reason the PC is showing BSOD rarely and yesterday my mouse cursor turned weird which appeared like this ||. Dont know why.

It seems win 8.1 has some serious shit in it. So i need a good working win 7 sp1 for my PC desperately. Kindly tell me if the slipstreamed or update injected ISO will solve this issue.

thanx in advance

Some things come to my mind since you mentioned BSOD and mouse cursor issues:

1. Scan your RAM for defects/corruption (memtest)

2. Scan your hard disk for bad sectors

3. Yes, after the above, go ahead and reformat/reinstall your OS and immediately install all updates (especially critical/important ones) as there's a possibility you are also visiting website or installing software with malware/spyware in them.[DOUBLEPOST=1433411048][/DOUBLEPOST]Also to take note (not accusing you or anything) that people who install pirated OS with keygens/hacks etc they need to know that usually these things come with malware/spyware etc by default!

Yep, still no harm in spending some time trying these steps, at least to eliminate those possibilities, right?

Post SP1 updates are security patches, not performance boosts.

IIRC you had an earlier thread, where you wanted to update the BIOS to improve SATA performance, when in fact you're using a slow HDD which is limited by physics.
IMHO, its possible that you have unrealistic performance expectations from just a CPU upgrade.

First of all, why don't you update Windows? Windows Updates contain security patches and other things necessary for the system, and are therefore very important. So, install the Windows updates. Keep Windows updated.

If you are using a 64-bit OS, then it's best to have 8 GB RAM on the system for a smooth performance. Otherwise, if you run heavy games, or applications, then system is bound to run slow.

As for Windows 8.1, you should try posting details about the BSOD, and try to solve the issue that is causing BSOD, rather than blame the OS for it.
