Windows 7/Ubuntu Dual Installation: Blue Screen of Death

Hi,

I've an AMD Athlon X2 245 Processor, Gigabyte Mobo, DDR3 2GB RAM (all very newly purchased) put up on a 160GB ATA HDD primary and a 500GB SATA HDD secondary (both checked with Seagate Drive Tools and a couple other tests... passed).

I have installed Windows 7 x64 on the ATA first, and after that, I installed Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat as a side-by-side installation. The setup itself created a partition in my ATA out of the free space and installed Ubuntu to that. The setup has been working smoothly since quite a while, but today... I got 2 Blue Screens of Death while running Windows in quick succession.

For the 1st BSoD, I have the Minidump and for the 2nd Minidump, i have a screenshot of the BSoD itself (I couldn't get a Minidump since i directly booted into Ubuntu after restarting). Here is a link to the Minidump for the 1st BSoD of the day -

Can anyone please explain what is going on here? Why am I getting these BSoDs? What can i do to remedy the situation?
 
Looking at error message, I think its because of:
1) Bad RAM chip
2) Bad driver like graphics driver.
3) unstable overclocking

Solutions:
1) Check if RAM chip is defected.
2) Remove all external hardwares like printer etc.
3) Un-install and re-install graphics driver using windows device manager.
 
PFN_LIST CORRUPT means that the system went to swap memory between the RAM and the VRAM on the hard drive, and couldn't. either: Pagefile.sys is not properly addressed.. did you change it's location in the registry? HDD Corruption -- The bad sector is located inside the pagefile.sys (although usually this would just cause a hang) BAD RAM -- (usually would give you a Page Fault Error instead

I got this from another forum,try running memtest86,and report back.

also try updating the bios.
 
Hmm, I ran the computer on Ubuntu for 12-15 hours, and it ran very smoothly, without a hiccup. Then, I performed a test via the MeMTest tool, and it found 1018 errors in 2 passes... it was on the 3rd pass but I decided that was enough. I also booted up via Windows once and got this BSoD -

Then, after rebooting, I ran a test via the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, and it said that there were Hardware Defects (RAM?)

Also, i installed WhoCrashed and it analysed the minidump and said that the crash was caused by "ntoskrnl.exe".

Now, this RAM I have bought is an OCZ DDR3 2GB stick, and I purchased it from Prime ABGB, Mumbai just a month ago. Should I courier it to them (how much time will it take?) or get it checked/repaired from a local shop?
 
Ok now, here's something weird. Since this thread, I have trid booting up via windows quite a few times and it has worked. Didn't get a BSoD after the one above. I removed Ubuntu and installed Fedora 14 as a side-by-side installation. I operated Fedora for hours. All this time the PC worked perfectly and there were no crashes. But, when I tried to boot up via Windows now, I got a Bootmgr is missing error. I have gotten this error before and knew one way to repair it. so, I put in my Windows 7 DVD, booted up via that. It didn't movie beyond the loading screen and windows logo. Just a blank black screen. For hours. I thought my optical drive was at fault, but the Fedora disc worked smoothly. I also performed a Memory Test via the MemTest tool in the Fedora disc, and it completed 1 pass without any error!

I don't know what's happening here. I have couriered the RAM stick to Prime ABGB for RMA, but I am not sure if that is indeed the problem, and if this issue will go away when it returns. What to do?
 
oh gawd, just run memtest for a really long time - i think you already saw it show you errors so get your RAM checked on another mobo then send for replacement
