Windows 7 "WMC cannot detect IR Hardware"

Hi,

In IR Hardware detection stage of Media Center TV Signal configuration, i am getting
"Windows Media Center cannot detect your IR receiver"
after this dead end of configuration.

TV Card is Pinnacle PCI on Windows 7

Is there any alternate to bypass this IR detection test ? I am feeding video signals by composite cable to TV card from set-top box

TIA

Dats because u don't have a IR blaster...:bleh:

There was a workaround in Vista where i used to add a virtual IR device but in Windows 7 there is no way to add a device unless it is detected.
So, can't add a virtual device...

I am not aware if any1 knows how to add a device in Windows 7 when it is not detected.

I think i have found a workaround.
Will try it this weekend and then let u know. :)

I am also scratching my head .Well planning to install "Virtual Vista MCE IR blaster" in Vista then upgrade to 7, may be it works.

Hey, sorry i forgot to add the workaround...

Go to run and type 'hdwwiz.exe' instead of 'hdwwiz.cpl' as in XP. U'll get the Add Hardware Wizard through which u can add any device manually as u were able to in earlier Windows versions...

U can see that the pages has some problems like Have Disk button not displayed properly etc coz it is still under development...

But this works and MCE would work...:)

Sometimes if you do a windows update with device plugged in... it will find a driver for you.... on the other hand sometime not..... but it is worth a try.

I do as you state: Go to run and type 'hdwwiz.exe'
I go to the screen that asks "search for and install HW" or " Install hw that I mnually select from a list" - I click this one.

It then asks to pick from a list, and I pick Infrared device.

It then states unable to find any drivers for this device.

Am I missing something? I was thinking the thread talked of not having a real IR device, but just faking MCE to think you have one?

Thx

U have to get a virtual IR device driver first and then add it so that it is detected by Windows.
I dnt remember the virtual IR device name though. Try googling. :)

So did anyone find a solution for this issues on Win 7 x64? I have the same issue (Pinnacle PCTV with Composite input) and I get stuck at the IR hardware page. The Vista MCE IR blaster doesn't install on Win 7 x64.

I don't think there were any issues with an actual IR device detection in Windows 7 x64. This thread was for a virtual IR device if you don't have an actual one.

You already have the IR blaster which should be detected properly in Windows 7. I had used a Hauppage one without any issues.

Try using Windows Update if it is not getting installed or download the driver from Pinnacle's Support Page for the specific model...
