Getting too many problems with a new DVD writer I bought from flipkart.
Writer is lite on ihas124-d some 805 version.

It does not read some DVD+r discs properly and gives incompatible media error. The discs are not bad because it can be read in other readers easily.
Other problem is it does not write DVD+r disc properly even once. It starts writing and then in middle or end of the burn it gives power calibration error. I used good verbatim blank DVD+r discs. Got 4-5 coasters because of the stupid drive. Tried burning from 6-16x. Getting same error on all settings.

I ran a Philips dvd lens cleaner on it. Also tried changing sata cable but this pos drive still gives errors.
Feel like breaking this drive into tiny pieces.

Is the drive doa? It reads original movie discs perfectly. Even plays same verbatim media I burned before perfectly on a old Sony drive. But it won't write new discs.

Suggestions? Don't have internet on my pc so give solutions that don't require internet connection please.

If it is a new piece then ask flip kart for a replacement within thirty days.if not rma it.

Was bought 3 months back. Fk is not selling it anymore also. I'm thinking is it because of windows 8? This os is a pain in the neck. Nothing works in it properly.
Also another problem could be my old outdated motherboard. Sata drives are enhanced ide in bios. Or something like that.

Maybe a power supply issue? Unclean power can also be a cause. What post supply unit are you using right now? Plus have you tested the writer in any other PC yet?

Its vx450. I haven't tested it in other system yet. I think its because of windows 8 only. I had installed windows 8 before i nought this drive. When I bought the drive, I wrote one or two dvd's using inbuilt burning software just to test speed.

That time everything was working fine. In may windows crashed and it reinstalled from scratch. Then onwards my front panel USB ports don't work properly and DVD writer does not write discs.

I tried installing cdburnerxp and the drive sees that blank disc is DVD+r. Then while trying to burn it runs at full speed for two three minutes then fails. If I look at recording side of DVD, nothing is recorded on it. So DVD writer is faking writing to the disc. I had imgburn too and it shows no aspi installed. So all burning softwares are using spti only. And failing.

I'm thinking of downgrading to 7 now. 8 is too much trouble. Half a$$d software.

Update: I reset pc to scratch with help of windows backup. Funny thing is that writer worked properly and read all DVDs I threw at it which it didn't read before. Not so funny thing was it changed the key and was asking for activation again.

So I restored a 3 month old copy of my windows backup on my pc (taken before writer was even bought) through acronis. Writer works now. And even the front USB ports work fine. Damn windows. Its doing something to hardware.

I found out what the problem is. Its windows 8. Had to refresh the os after some adaptec udf driver messed it up.

Seems windows 8 cannot read udf formatted DVD drives properly. All this time I was blaming the drive but culprit turned out to be the os.
Researched a lot on ms forums but seems no useful solution is there.

Any udf reading software available for this os?

nero INCD used to read UDF discs.

also have you tried reading the discs using windows 7 etc.

power calibration error is early sign of weak laser/lens.

Have you tried switching the SATA cables around? Try putting the drive on Sata #1 or 2 and see if it helps.

Tried it with two different cables and ports. The drive reads dual layer movie or audio cds and DVDs perfectly.
Weird thing is, for the DVDs I wrote in udf format, it will read the discs just fine. Then after ejecting the disc it will not read it again. Windows just says no disc in drive.

Probably dvd drive is a faulty drive.
Time to rma it I guess. Can new drive be faulty without even using it?

If it's reading and burning in another OS, I doubt the drive is faulty. Did you check the dvds in another OS as well?
It just might be possible (but unlikely) that the drive is at fault, but do try your luck with an RMA.

Any luck trying it with a Windows 7 OS? I use the same drive, sourced from Flipkart burnt a few discs - no issues here.

I wasted a few hours of my life on this stupid DVD drive. Installed windows 7 new from scratch. Drive works intermittently. It reads discs it didn't read when in windows 8. Then it just stopped recognizing any DVD+r discs. New blank disc is also not recognized. It just throws incompatible medium error.
Then I tried writing a DVD. Then by chance after few ejects of blank disc it recognised a blank DVD. But while burning, started throwing out I/o timeout error, and power calibration error after that.
Tried burning cd-rw. Even it did not burn that. Gave some error like wrong sector or something.

Got so fed up, I once again formatted the hdd and installed windows 8. Got used to all the features it has over 7 and 7 was pissing me off a lot together with the half dead drive.

Will remove the drive and try rmaing it. Importer is neoteric mumbai. Where do I go to rma the drive?

Bought it in march. Fk has only 30 day return policy. After that we need to contact manufacturer.
I just filled up a form on liteon's support page. Let's see what happens. :)
