Longhorn will feature graphic interface called WGF 1.0 and we'br already mentioned a few times.
We wrote that chips such as R520, the upcoming "Fudo" high end chip from ATI and the midrange R530 and RV515 will all have support for WGF 1.0. This means that they will all have Direct 3D 9.0+ support. We are not sure what Nvidia will do to take advantage of these features, but suspect that even older Nvidia and ATI chips can fit into WGF 1.0 support.
Insiders in Microsoft call WGF 1.0, DirectX 9.L, where L possibly stands for Longhorn. We know that WGF works with DCE, Desktop Composition Engine the low level layer that uses 3D hardware to compose all windows in the back buffer to perform the flip.
As for WGF 2.0 you can view it as Direct3D 10 or what used to be called D3D10 and it will be the next big thing in graphics, but hardware compliant with this spec is expected in 2006 and we assume that chip that might be named R620 will have such support. We heard that features such is Shader Model 4.0 will be a part of it and some of the Longhorn interface will actually work just with WGF 2.0 hardware to make your desktop look cool. Hopefully.
