Windows Phone 7 Was Doomed By Design . Microsoft Admits

Many owners of Windows Phone 7 devices were disappointed with Microsoft not offering them Windows Phone 8 upgrade in the future , some said that Microsoft knew this would happen while others claimed that it did not do it on purpose .

In an interview of Greg Sullivian, Microsoft's senior product manager for Windows Phone, by Cnet , he has accepted that this was the part of the plan from the very beginning . Back when buyers were grabbing the very first Windows Phones, Microsoft was already working on Windows Phone 8 for future buyers only.

"It was right after Windows Phone 7," Sullivan said, speaking in an interview with CNET UK. The team that developed the 7.5 release actually was working in parallel with the core team that was already beginning [Windows Phone 8]. In fact some of that work was already initiated before Windows Phone 7 was even available -- so this goes back a little bit."
Unifying the Windows Phone and full-fat Windows kernel "was always the plan", he adds.

The reason why the plan involved leaving early supporters in the cold was that they needed a base to get developer interested in developing apps for the platform , so they pushed Windows Phone 7 even when knowing that the platform will be obsolete soon .

"It was important for us to establish this new approach in user experience and begin to build the developer ecosystem," says Sullivan. "Those are necessary but not sufficient steps to establish a new platform and we didn't want to wait until [we were able to launch Windows Phone 8] to begin that because we're maintaining those core characteristics of the platform."

sounds fair enough from microsoft.research is what comes important in these situations.
unfortunately the same cnet who has made this meaty article fails to admit that they didn't inform the same to the masses.
