Windows Server Edition

flash23

Level D
I have access to download LEGIT Windows server OS, I can download all of them but dont want to download redundant and useless crap.
I need your advice to choose the best Server OS considering that it will be used as a home server for data streaming, storage, etc.

the available versions are :
1. Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 HPC

2. Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter-Enterprise-Standard

3. Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard-Enterprise-Datacenter-Web

4. Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard-Enterprise-Datacenter-Web with SP 1 Debug/Checked Build

GO for the standard version w/ SP1 as of now as that seems best suited for the task.

Are you implying number 4? It's a debug build and may come bloated with unnecessary tools and extra logging that he may not need.

Number 3 should be his choice but afterwards he will have to slipstream SP1 with the image.

why downloading an enterprise level os instead of something more suited to the task? if you can download Windows Home Server v 7 or 2011 then get that.

Get a copy of the non debug version. Its available on *ahem* sites. I had to get from there after finding out that MS dreamspark did not allow me to pause downloading when getting the server OS!

^^ With their latest downloader they do.

@OP: R2 standard edition is the way to go.

@OP: R2 standard edition is the way to go.

It supports pausing, but when i start again, it used to get hung. So just got the keys from there and OS from else where.

However, I agree that R2 is the way to go.

These are available for free along with several of other softwares of microsoft like Visio 2010, sharepoint, windows xp pro, Vista Home Premium and loads of other stuff On IEEE Computer Society.

There downloader is OK it supports pause and resume, however it is buggy in that scenario.
