Windows update does not install

Windows update updates itself but when it installs the updates says"Security update....failed" "Update for.....failed" in the progress box.

Any ideas?

Well if you are using a pirated version...
Yours could be using one of the few serial nos. that microsoft doesn't support...Have tried installing SP2 or the new WMP 11....It doesn't install if you have one of the serial nos....

edit: I don't know the solution to the problem :ashamed: . It involves doing something in the registry. I simply reinstall the OS when I face such problems...:eek:hyeah:
 
Ok, next time you get the failed error, not down the update number. Now goto Add-Remove programs, on the top there is a check box that says show updates. Check that, scroll down and look for the update that failed. Even though the update failed, it should come up in Add/Remove, uninstall it and reboot. Try updating again.
 
Had the same problem when I was in infy...my great computer dept tried to solve it, but could not. Ultimately, they gave up and marked it as "Do not remind again" :)
