I know it's almost the same and server version is much better in more than one aspect :)

I am getting a genuine key for 2008 R2, is there any reason why I should consider running windows7 rather than 2008 R2? Is there anything better in windows7 that isn't there in R2?

PS: R2 licenses are given to Dreamspark members.

Windows Server 2008 R2 is great if you are a developer, need to try out various new features of the Server R2 platform like Direct Access, Branch Cache and stuff, only if you are inclined towards it, Windows 7 is great for everything else, if you are getting the Ultimate version, and since you already are getting a key for the R2 you can use Boot from VHD feature and install your Windows Server 2008 R2 in it, that way you can use both

Please note boot from VHD is different from Multiboot systems and the VHD is in your/will be in your Windows 7

virtually there is no difference for normal user/gamer ... so if u r getting genuine key for 2k8 R2 then go for it
