Sorry, had to initiate a new thread as this seems to be a common issue.

Lots of incidents of front windshields developing cracks due to bent frame / heat / poor quality rasin etc.

Shouldn't this be considered as manufacturing defect and covered as warranty rather than being covered as insurance claim?

^^ warranty yes it can be. Insurance no they wont cover it unless you break it completly and claim someone threw a stone or something....

The glass replecement shops are experts at this....

Well unless the car came with a bent frame from the factory itself, you cannot claim warranty from the manufacturer for any damage caused to the frame due to external reasons. And factories buy type-rated resin from OEM suppliers, so there's a very little chance of the resin used by the factory to be of inferior quality. Even if it is, it would be near impossible for you to prove it in order to claim a warranty replacement. Insurance on the other hand covers accidental damages to your vehicle and glass is covered at 100% with no depreciation as in plastic or metal. But then if you make a claim, you have to do the math of whether the claim is worth you losing your no-claim bonus. In my case it never ever was so I hv actually started taking 3rd party liability policy only and not comprehensive.

One more thing, windshields almost never ever crack due to the heat. A simple logic to this is the glass fixed on various buildings which are much thinner, and weaker, not to mention that a normal window pane is not even laminated, do not crack in "Delhi" heat.
