Winki The Ripper Review

Winki The Ripper aims to be the easiest program for video encoding. It is actually just a graphical frontend for GNOME written in python to command line tools like mencoder, oggenc, mkvtoolnix, mplayer and lsdvd.

Some features:

Supported input formats
· DVD
· VCD/SVCD
· Multimedia file (does not work very well still)

Supported output formats
· VCD/SVCD (limited to 1 video, 1 audio and no subtitle streams)
· Multimedia matroska or ogm file (limited to 1 video, 3 audio and 3 subtitle streams)
· Multiple chunk output
· Predefined and custom size output chunks
· Easy crop detection
· Preview settings before rip

Dear Quad,
Instead of just linking the review page it would be beneficial to also give link to the home-page as there would be/might be distros. which do not have a pre-compiled version. Another possibility is there might be some late-breaking news which is not covered there. Also one cannot get any kind of support in case of issues. Just to enumerate this is the home page of Winki The Ripper (catchy name there :) ) :-

Some limitations as given in the site :-

Winki the Ripper: Limitations

Limitations

This is an alpha version so it have its limitations.

The ones I can think now are
it works with the english versions of mplayer, mencoder and lsdvd only
it works with the newest versions of mplayer and mencoder only (dvd://1 syntax)
it cannot use external audio or subtitles files
the program does not check the HDD free space before encoding
no support for the GTK build in support for people with disabilities

I might be doing this above thing for all your finds today but would expect a stellar way of doing it the next way you find stuff. Hope there are no bad feelings on this.
