Hey...guys how do I scure my wireless internet....please.....

Becasue....I think my neighbor is using it....
yea its funny....but not for me...
HELP ME>>>>
THANKS>>>

Ok, here goes nothing...

Every Wireless modem will have some kind of a setup tool. Mine (Microsoft MN700) can be used through IE by typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar. You then have to log in. Check your wireless modem manual on how to do this.

Once this is done, its very simple. There will be a tab called as wireless security. In that you can choose something called as "WEP". Choose 128bit, as this is more than enough for home users.

Once this is done, you will be asked to put in an hexadecimal key. (you can use only 0-9, A-F). Remember this key as this will be what you put in. Just save this, and exit. you may have to reboot your modem.

Once restarted, check you wireless connection on your computer. It will tell you that its a secure connection, and you need a key for this. Enter this key and access is done. Unless someone knows thsi key, they cannot access it.

Let me know if this works...

Also, check the manual. You can restrict the MAC addresses of the laptops which can connect to your network. It will also help. Plus, if your wireless router supports WPA, use it instead of WEP.

Mac restriction is the easiest one to crack...

WEP provides some sembelance of security though

As for WPA, it needs to be supported by the router + the wireless card on his machine...

But I guess any of the 3 above will be hindrance enough for his neighbor not to freeride on his net connection

Hey...I got the MAC security....
thanks...

If you have 802.11g, it should be good enough for everything. Even the 802.11b standard offers 11 MBps, more than enough for any gaming needs.

Refer - Wireless Standards - 802.11b 802.11a 802.11g - Which Is Best?

On the other hand, your router may cause problems while gaming if you dont hvae the required ports open (maybe...). Wireless itself will not cause any problems.

Hey..thanks dude.....
