Hi,

I m looking a Wireless ADSL router for my cousin for his MTNL connection. Along with router I also need a wireless USB adapter which can be plugged to his Desktop to connect it to router.

I had an eye on Netgear DGN1000 Wireless-N 150 Router With Modem on Flipkart, costs me Rs.1500

Do let me know your suggestions.

Anyone ?

Also added info: There are going to be two walls in between room where Desktop is kept and router is kept. Do I need to look for Dual Antenna ?

You need only a router right? Or a router plus modem?

Single antaenna ones do t provide any range through 2-3walls.

Buy any Tp link router which has 2 5dbi antaenna.. Router prices Have dropped a lot on Snapdeal and flipkart... Get the Tp link 150mbps adapter for 475from Snapdeal or flipkart...

I need router + modem I guess.
I want following
MTNL wire comes in router/router+modem. That device is wireless. Desktop has a USB adapter to connect with it and use internet.

If u need modem plus router with best range, go for Tp link 8968,~2150 on Snapdeal, it has 2*5dbi antaenna, so range is good.

Or u can go for tp link 8961 model which has 2*3dBi antaenna, range will be lesser and has no usb port. Costs around 1880-1950 on various sites...

A 150mbps adapter from Tp link costs 475 on both flipkart and Snapdeal, range is around 10-12 feet.

If you buy a strong router , then it will be ok...or you'll have to buy a stronger adapter...with external antaena

I have attached schematic. Kindly confirm devices I will be ohk with.

If you install the router anywhere in the kitchen, maybe wall-mount it preferably on the bedroom adjacent wall, then you will get excellent coverage in any art of the house.

I am using D-Link 2750U for the past 4 months without any issue with MTNL 2mbps connection. No drops, very good coverage for 10-15 feet in all directions, 7 devices connected at a time without trouble, and setup was a breeze.

I cannot advise about desktop USB wireless adapter as I have never had to use any.

Yes Kitchen could have been best place but since he do not want to disturb concealed wiring, place for router/modem is almost immovable. :(
