Hi guys. Was planning on getting a wireless ADSL modem-router for sharing my Triband connection between a wired desktop and two wireless notebooks, all within a range of around 10-15 meters of the desktop. I'm n00b where wireless is concerned, but these two look good:

Netgear DG834G

Linksys WAG354G

Techtree pegged the Netgear one at Rs.4,824 in a June 2006 pricelist, so that appears quite appealing. A thinkbroadband.com review came to the conclusion that the Netgear one has the slowest LAN transfer speed but the best range. That seems like a plus to me. Then again, its a really old review (2004) and I believe the hardware has got quite a few firmware updates by now. Any ideas where it stands today?

Whatddya think? Which of the two is worth buying (or any alternatives)?

PS: The rooms are kinda of making an ' H ' with the desktop at the middle of the left arm and the notebooks at each end of the right arm. The line joining the arms of H is open lobby.

Well...another thing. I currently use DLink DSL-502T with 'WAN Setting' set to 'Bridge Mode' instead of the default, always on 'PPoE/PPoA', as I received from MTNL. Now, I've no idea about the underlying concepts but this lets me use the Triband connection as a regular dialer; lets me schedule the connection for Night Unlimited using a simple rasdial script.

Will this be possible in the Netgear modem-router?

i would suggest you go for Netgear DG834G ..i had used this Wireless router for like 3 months or so and hadnt had a problem.. it had some issues when it was launched but after firmware upgrades .. it was just awesome :)

btw i dont think its 4.8k bux .. its way cheaper than that price tag.

Thanks for your inout UV. But you see I often use a router reboot script to schedule reboot on DLink router through telnet, at 0000 hrs and 0800 hrs daily so that MTNL Night Unlimited usage is registered properly with MTNL server logs.

Now what's really bothering me that apparently to access the DG834G through Telnet, one has to go through (an unsupported page on) router's web configuration 192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug.

If that is so, and I've to activate telnet afresh through web interface for each reboot operation, there goes my scheduled reboot and I would've practically wasted my money. Can you let me know something on this?

as u already have a adsl modem/router u just need to get an access point. like the Linksys WAP54G. It will com around 2-2.5k.

also ur current setup remains intact and no further configuration is necessary
