Hi All ,

I currently have only a LAN router from MTNL - Sam 300 AX .
I am looking to upgrade to the Freedom 800 Plan which gives 2 Mbps at night (11-8 )
and rest of the day @ 512 Kbps , As usual NO FUP :D :D :D
To utilize the speeds at night i am looking to buy a Wireless Router which supports torrent
downloading and Direct downloads .

I am on a tight budget of 3k , Also i would be returning the router by mtnl .
according to my current understanding , i feel that this router Asus N13U B1 fits my needs and budget .
One question i have in my mind is , if i flash the firmware will it void the warranty ?
Ps - In no way i am looking to void the 3 year warranty .

Looking to purchase almost immediately but would wait if there is a good reason to postpone my purchase
max till march end .

You cant get a RT N13U and use it directly, the ASUS is for Ethernet connections, not for ADSL ones. You will need a modem too.

If you have one already, great, else, get a used one from members on TE.

As for the torrenting this is a great router! But, you will need to flash DD WRT. It does void the warranty, but you could always reflash it, just like me, before giving it for RMA ;)

Thanks for replying .

i would be buying or keeping another modem , the sub 1000 ones , but still i would like to discover other options within this range 3-4k , i would prefer single router to clear the mess but the Asus n13u would be the last option at 2700 . :D

regarding the warranty part , i won't be able to reflash if it does not power up at all , had a really bad experience in past with something , i can survive if the stock firmware can handle torrents .

Could you enlighten me about the RMA process , i mean the time taken , procedure , did you received a new or refurbished one and cost involved etc .

Yes, the stock f/w can handle torrents, but its really hopeless! Also, I need more than just torrent support, so will be using a dedicated device (Go Flex Net) for the same along with the RT N13.

In my case, the WAN port refused to function, but LAN ports were working. I just did a recovery flash using the latest image from the ASUS site.

If you cannot power it up then there is no problem at all! Its dead! So you should get a new one asap.

As for the RMA, I went to the ASUS service centre in Andheri ~ Saki Naka, spoke to the person there. Also gave him my router to check. He spoke to Rashi, next day I went back, collected the faulty router, went to Rashi, got a new box packed unit on the spot.

Ok , but what about Direct downloads like the ones from Mega upload password protected , i would flash it With DD WRT if it does support something Like the Jdownloader

EDIT : one more thing is there any way by which i would be totally screwed ? , i mean if i flash it with dd WRT and there is no way to Reflash it back , is there any way

they can detect it ?

Rather than getting the ASUS, stick to your old router, get a Pogoplug. This will have support from dinjo in his new thread so that will be much better. Plus it has more CPU horsepower than the n13.

It has built-in wifi you just have to enable it.

If you are thinking of sticking to stock firmware either with pogo or rt n13 then forget about using as download box.

now i am not thinking about sticking with stock firmware , either way i can claim warranty , can you tell me more about the pogo plus , also share your email since TE is going down

i had placed a order on ebay for ASUS n13U , but the seller asked a little time for shipping , now he say's he is out of stock .

i had placed the order for 2750 , after coupons . now there are no coupons + sellers have increased their price for some reason . now i can't find it below 3200 .

the ebay seller asked for more time yesterday . Lets see what he has to say after 5-7 more days. i hope till that time he gets the stock.

guy's i don't want to wait anywore , any alternate router available , since its not available for under 3200 , don't want to spend this amount on a year old router

Hi,

I have the same router, sparingly(as in 2 weeks) used as I upgraded to ASUS RT-N16 which has 2 USB ports, the router is mint, except for one problem, the adapters wire coating got eaten up at places by rat, the wire is not broken, just the coating has been eaten at places

Will be putting a FS in the classifieds soon,

Thanks for the help brother , just postponed the plans after getting refund from Flipkart .

will buy it after two weeks . Out of town till then . ):
