Hi Friends,

I have been facing a problem with my Internet services from the past 6-7 months.

Let me give you a small background on the services. I had a connection from my local provider for Exatt net in Mulund, Mumbai. About 7-8 months ago I thik, Exatt closed shop in Mulund, or so I was led to believe from my cablewallah. Now I had also the TATA 2 mbps connection which when connected, I learnt that it was supplied for the last mile by my own cable wallah (monopoly). So in absense of Exatt in the day time, I took a Pacenet 64 kbps UL connection for my daytime gaming usage, again from my cablewallah. So in the last 6-7 months I have been facing loss to the gateway which starts at around 9.30 -10 PM and lasts till about 2.30 - 3 AM.

Both the connections have the same problems during the night. So its like some sort of connection issue. I have tried speaking with the thick headed people at TATA and my local cablewallah but no joy yet. I am frustrated and dont know how to approach this problem.

Since the problem only happen at night, I have been told by tata to call when I have the problem, inspite of me trying to make an attempt to explain them the problem. My cable wallah engineers are worse with them having no clue and giving me preposterous answers like they would try to make a c***ya out of me.

Please advise a best course of action here. My fascist housing society is paid by the cablewallah to not allow any other connection, and I am made out to be a troublemaker trying spoil the premises with overhead wires from different ISPs.

What do I do, at this point in time, all I am able to sucessfully do is a facepalm. :(

^^ Read the post atleast man .. He cannot switch to another ISP as the Housing society dsnt allow it ...
EDIT : though isnt WiMax or something like Evdo another option from you?
Also are the other residents facing the same problem?

Isnt MTNL providing broadband through phone lines which are already laid internally? As long as u use concealed wiring, your housing society cant stop u from choosing any operator. Also airtel does decent installation in building (my exp at office premises in pune) so building authority shouldnt oppose that too. Get together people like you and demand rights by pushing current rules.

I guess its the same with all ISP in india..

My bsnl bb wasnt working since 2 days, went yest to the nearby office, a$$hole gives me a number and asks me to call that guy, and said he'l charge 200rs, i was like wtf are you there for?

+1 for MTNL. I'm sure most, if not all your society members must be having MTNL landline connection. So obviously the phone lines have already been laid.

Wimax might be another possibility but again it depends on where you can mount the dish.

arrey, if you are through local cablewalah then i asume you are connected through LAN.In such case try to check if you are getting pacenet query properly, if yes then problem is at TATA's back end if no then as you have renewed to Pacenet 64 UTD keep on bugging your operator unless he repairs pacenet line, if your pacenet query is constant your TATA will work properly,

btw no use talking to TATA engg or CC :S :|

I suggested MTNL/BSNL because it comes through the telephone line and you need to have intervention of cablewallah or anyone. Moreover they cannot do anything if you get a MTNL/BSNL broadband.

Which plan do I go for?

849UL seems too yuck for daytime usage.

If you can afford the price, then Rs.1,599 for the 1Mbps unlimited line OR any of the unlimited scheme which are feasible for you. If you take a limited scheme on MTNL & overshoot your download quota, then be prepared to bash your head against the wall. I personally suggest getting the unlimited plans as the normal day quota for all "limited" MTNL plans is ridiculously low.

Staying only a few minutes away from Sheru, I'm facing the same issue, although the cablewalla providing me the Tata connection is different, there seems to be some dispute between him and tata over payment issues, which is why he's cutoff the net access to tata for the past 4 days.

Luckily there is no monopoly at the place where I stay, so i could opt for someone else, but I dont think any other ISP has got as good a plan as I've got currently (3600 bucks for 6 months with 9-9 nu).

Only other option seems to be MTNL however I guess there is a considerable waiting time for a new connection. Airtel is available across the street but not where I stay for some odd reason :(

So the best thing seems to be, to hope that the current issue with tata is sorted.

Right now using someone else's SIFY account cause I was getting desperate :P

^ same here , stay in the same cable limits as sheru .

What bothers me most in this scenario is that even after me paying my bill I am not able to get the latest True Blood because of their internal matter.

What frustrates me is that as a paying customer I have no right in getting the connection !

How about Tata WiMax ? Does anyone from Mumbai have any experience with that ?

Seems like Tata hasn't paid the cable operator in my area for the past few months, and according to the conversation I had with one of the guys, it'll take another 4-5 days for the cheques to be issued by tata ... that really sucks :@

I guess Quadmaster had a similar issue with tata in his area a few months back.

Had to get a limited pacenet connection for 300bucks as a ad-hoc solution. I'm seriously planning to move back to MTNL :(
