Very nice trailer. IMO, if they can make the game even half as much fun, they will have succeeded. Watch in HD if possible.

Open Beta currently ongoing for EU/US users.

Servers will most likely be EU/US only which means high pings for us here - that's if we're allowed to connect at all. Hoping that we will be allowed to play as people are currently play WOT from here and its the same dev.

Having said that, tank warfare is one thing, but "flying" with high pings is not much fun.

I know, because I have tried playing other Flight sims on EU servers...

I have played the closed beta of this game. You can play from anywhere in the world on any server location (if you can live with the high ping). However the ping would not go much high to render it unplayable.

As far as gameplay is concerned, I feel it needs much inprovement and it also needs dedicate joystick to fly the planes as using keyboard and mouse is no fun. Due to all these reasons I stopped playing it long ago.

Well TBH, it all depends on what ones definition of "unplayable" is.

For me, 450 ping (which is what I get to EU servers) is unplayable for flight/space sims. Too much lead is required. Add to this the fact that other players tend to have single digit pings and you're pretty much toast.

If you like Flight/Space sims, you should consider investing in a Joystick. It makes a HUGE difference for these types of games both in terms of flight control (ie. actually flying) as well as immersion.

Nowadays, you can get a reasonably decent Joystick for around Rs.3000.

Over the years I have bought several Joystick & HOTAS setups. Currently have 3 dedicated HOTAS setups plus several joysticks as well. ;)

This is the next one on my "to buy" list -

The Saitek ones were always on my to get list.. but on my trip to Germany I just couldnt cart the load especially on the tight sched that i was on.

In India, I've yet to come across the better quality FS joysticks. I've been an FS simmer for years

Good to meet you mach9.

I know exactly what you mean regarding the boxes for the HOTAS/sticks. They are quite large and cumbersome to carry.

I have a Saitek X45 Digital HOTAS. Also have a Thrustmaster HOTAS but my favorite by far is the Suncom Talon + SFS setup.

Not sure if you know but Thrustmaster products have been available in India for a while now. Unfortunately, they are priced really high here and are not worth it considering their price in India. Better to get them from abroad if possible.

I had an photo I took a while back of all my HOTAS/Sticks in along with some of my older Flight/Space sims but I cant seem to find it.

What Flight Sims do you play? Do you also play Space Combat Sims? Would be nice to know. :)

No.. I'm more of an MSFS pro. Been on the platform since early 2000 n have come through the various releases, both as a simmer n also as a member of a well known modelling group. Currently FSX n FS9 (old but gold n possibly the best version of the franchise) serve me well with various addons. Though it's been a while since i simmed .. thanks to various other things keeping me busy, I haven't had much time to sim for the last couple of years.

I know about Thrustmaster products.. but like you said, price sensibility does not exist in India.. Logitech's quality i found fiddly, but used to make do. Microsoft i never really tried, but their sidewinder premium models were never in proper supply n priced high too

@mach9

Ahh I see. :)

I used to play MS Flight Sim a very, very long time ago. The one thing I always did like in MS Flight Sim was doing approaches in bad weather conditions. For some reason, I used to play those repeatedly because I really enjoyed them.

If you like commercial Sims, you can give this one a try as well -

My preferred games however are SP/MP combat sims, be they flight or space.

If you ever consider playing one of those, do let me know and I will recommend some. The good thing about this genre is that one can buy old classics for virtually peanuts these days and some of them are very hardcore, as in as "real as it gets without military clearance" type sims. :)

Thanks. Will check them out. Did play the F18 series back in the day.. didn't follow on after that. I might give it some try when i have time free, will drop u a PM.

X Plane has been around a long time and is catching on of late. Partly because of MSFS screwing up their strategy with the disaster that was Flight. All said & done, X Plane has a lot of potential and a lot of developers are looking at it quite seriously. Considering where they first started out and where they are now, I think they are worth a look at as a serious alternative to MSFS. I haven't made the shift to XPlane mostly because like most old hardcore simmers and MSFS addicts, the number of addons i invested in on the MSFS platform was really ridiculous to just adandon! lol. Besides, FSX which started off on a really crap footing and struggled to better FS9's popularity initially has got much better with time and offers decent immersion with many developers now exploiting its full potential. So i intend to stick on for a while with MSFS (given that simming time is more of a luxury for me these days).

I just checked, I have 3 F-18 based sims. Which one are you referring to? The ones I have are -

Janes F/A-18
F/A-18 Precision Strike Fighter
F-18 Hornet 3.0 Korea

Do let me know if you have some other and I will try and arrange it for myself as well.

I know what you mean about your "investment" in add ons for FS. I have 3 scenery packs (Hawaii, NY and Paris) myself. For many people, the investment in expansion packs and custom aircraft packages often goes way beyond the initial cost of the Sim itself...
