Came across this site which shows a detailed world submarine cable map.
Also clicking one of the links on the top of the page displays interesting statistical data about the bandwidth and other related details.
If we zoom in to India it seems like there is still a huge scope for us to increase connectivity with the world. In comparison to some smaller European countries it seems that we have very less bandwidth...

Things look pretty good in cities like B'lore and HYD and many parts of Mumbai when it comes to ISP choices. They have good plans for a reasonable price but in many tier 2 cities this is still a distinct dream.
Lets hope the coming years bring something positive on this front also... And for our Govt they still seem to be happy on defining 256kbps as Bandwidth...
Govt has planned to increase it to 2Mbps but no timeline on that... Its like we are planning to get there by 2012 ... wtf
