I have an X360 Arcade since the last 2 years now. I don't see any reason why you would want to upgrade to the X360S, unless you're current console is completely dead.

It depends on your budget. Normally I would recommend upgrading because of how cool and efficient the 360S runs compared to previous model. If you have the budget, then go for it. While you won't see any graphical or hardware changes, the system runs much more cooler.

An upgrade is not necessary unless you face any problems on your current console. Squeeze every drop out of it and upgrade after its dead or something.:P. Vasool all your paisa first.

Intact the arcade has 3 yrs of warranty and if you are just 2 years into it stick with it

The 360S hasn't been around for a long time to be judged on it's efficiency front. The Jasper Arcades are more than enough for now, considering it's covered by a 3 year RRoD and E74 error issues.

360S was released by microsoft with more efficient hardware. Now the 360S was released last year in July, so I do not know what you meant by "The 360S hasn't been around for a long time to be judged on it's efficiency front" I bought a 360S in Denver (US) last year during September and I could see the difference. I could have taken a video to show the difference, my both xboxes are back at my home in Denver and I am here in Bangalore.

It makes less noise, It has built in wireless (WiFi) Less chance of failure and obviously bigger HD compared to Arcade. So like I said in my previous post, have the money go for it. Else stick with your arcade.

I clearly remember the initial launch of the 360S. People complained of getting the "The Xbox 360 is shutting down to protect the console from insufficient ventilation." message, albeit the console was perfectly ventilated. This isn't efficient in my books, at least not at the launch of a newly hardware revised console.

I'll quote a this from a website pertaining to that message:

As documented in the past, it seems like the internal architecture of the Xbox 360 is just prone to overheating, so in order to prevent that from happening, the new "Xbox 360 Slim" will just make you wait for a few minutes until the power light stops flashing. We understand the fact that this could serve as a hindrance during your "epic gameplay moment," but if you ask us, it's better to give your Xbox 360 a 5-10 minutes break instead of waiting a month for a replacement or fix.

Source: No RROD: Overheating prompts the Xbox 360 slim to shut down

But then again, I'm not judging it just based on that message. My statement was merely to specific that 1 year isn't a very long time for the console to be judged on it's efficiency, at least not for a gaming console. It's just been one year since it launched, the Arcades (Jasper chipsets) have been there for almost double the time and have been highly stable. Also did I mention the 2 year extended warranty bit for the non-360S models?

As for noise, my Arcade is almost dead silent, even if I turn off the fan. I install all my games to the HDD, so no disc noise. When you speak of HDD size, sure the basic 4GB version has a higher size compared to the 512MB onboard memory of the Arcades, but it still won't let you install 1 full game on it. The best you can do is a couple of DLC's OR XBLA games. So unless, the OP has the money to plonk for a 250GB version 360S, I'm not sure why he would upgrade.

Since Allwyn mentioned overheating, let me share an instance which happened a couple of days back. I was playing Perfect Dark Zero on the X360S and I suppose 2~3 hours passed by as I played the game to completion. While I ejected the disc, and decided to put it back to the hard plastic casing, I noticed that the case was lying atop the vents of the system chassis blocking it completely! As soon as I took the case, there was a huge rush of hot air wanting to be expelled out of the case and the system chassis was hot - let's just say warmer than usual. The speed of the fan increased instantly and the whining sound was noticeable! It quickly expelled out the hot air and the speed reduced within a minute.

If this was to continue for another couple of hours, the system may have shut itself down to prevent further damage. In any case, this is just a fail-safe method which is present in our desktop and laptop processor chips.

I would say you should stick with the Arcade for now. As everyone stated that till the time your console is dead why even think of a new one because their no hardware changes in the newer versions of 360S a bit more silent a bit more cool. But yes if you are looking for a new console i would say bunk the 360 go for the PS3. Though you wont get a 3.55 version now but i heard soon there will a new jailbreak for the new fw. Why buy 360 with a normal drive when you get a blu ray drive;) Cheers!! :D
