I wonder how many would do this?
JOHANNESBURG: Infatuation with his high school sweetheart cost a South African Indian medical student a hefty fine after he fraudulently wrote her matriculation mathematics exam.
Prenolan Pillay, 21, a third-year medical student, and his girlfriend Kalishree Govender, 19, were each fined 2,000 rands after admitting guilt to fraud charges in a court here.
Govender has also been prohibited from writing her mathematics exam for two years by education authorities in North West province, where the fraud was committed in October last year.
The pass mark, awarded to Govender after the results were released in December, was declared invalid.
In what was described as a "silly plan for someone like a medical student", Pillay used an identity document with Govender's personal details to gain entry to an examination centre to write the paper, while Govender herself wrote the same paper in an adjacent room.
As soon as the invigilator for the examination centre discovered that the details for the two papers were exactly the same, police were called in.
The director of communications in the North West Education Ministry, Charles Rasela, lauded the firm action by the courts, and said that it would send out a strong message that examination irregularity would not be tolerated in any form.
The two lovebirds who paid their fines to avoid a six-month jail option avoided media calls to further comment.
