while i continue my quest for a web UI enabld DVD writing app, I went ahead and got a Samsung 223 DVD writer
I decided that for the time being, I can use VNC (remote desktop) for burning DVDs
Installed Gnomebaker and fired a 4.3 GB file for writing
was promptly thrown a gibberish error
so i go ahead and install brasero..no go
Thinking something is wrong with the drive, I opened up my HTPC (aargh...)
removed the Benq drive, wired it to the linux box, and guess what...same
F%*(ng error
Turns out DVD writing support for files over 2 GB is broken in all debian distros (perhaps other distros too)
Now i continue my quest for a workaround (while mising the CSK RC match
) and hopefully will be able to after wasting 3-4 hours,
But let's see who claims Linux is ready for desktop prime time
OS X/ Windows, this would have been a clear plug , shut and forget story
And unfortunately, this isn't an isolated case...despite the fact that Linux is a great server OS, its desktop usability is far away from any good
