Suggestions with technical indetails are really appreciated.
also if there are ANY GOOD OTHER CARDS UNDER $200 THT CAN BEAT AN X-FI pls do suggest.
:)

Either go for the XtremeMusic (VFM) or Fatal1ty series (the onboard ram will make a big difference if you game a lot - esp. in games like FEAR, BF2, Quake4 and all future games). It's expensive but if you start saving now, you can buy it in a few months :)

Nope. Only elite and fatality has xram.

If you can afford it go for platinum. That drive and remote is sure nice thing to have.

The Xtreme Music has onboard RAM?

no .
X ram really just gives a couple of fps boost in games.

Go for the Xfi platinum if you have the budget . You get a bay with lots of nice options for any future upgrade of speakers like connection modes , headphones slot + remote . extreme is a no nonsense card with little extra features. :)

i also think so for 64 mb xram it dont deserve the 100 bucks increase i guess its for using the name fatality they have to pay to fatality the gamer some premium :bleh:
funky i was thinking of getting the platinum only.
now if someone wud temme the cost of tht x-fi platinum here.its costing me rs 9500 evetything inclusive approx including 15% profit of baasha.
also is it worth buying x-fi from abroad?

it has a drive and a nice remote moreover remote matters a little more.. and yea lemme see but is it suggested to get a x-fi from abroad? i mean is it okay?

Go for the X-Fi Platinum as it has more connectors.

In the X-Fi Xtreme Music, apart from the 7.1 analog outputs there is only one jack that serves as mic in, line in or digital out... This is a big negative especially if you have a digital out speakers which seriously limits your connectivity..

Whereas in the X-Fi Platinum, on the front panel u get digital I/O, MIDI I/O, headphone out, mic input, RCA line inputs and a remote controller...

So decide wisely and go for the Platinum if you are require more connections for your audio card..:)

slightly off-topic guys,(sorry x86)
but how does a sound card improve the gaming performance...??
this is wat picked up from the creative X-FI Xtreme-music features list:

"A completely re-engineered game audio processing engine utilizing the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity audio processor allows Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic to deliver the fastest gaming performance ever seen, providing more than a 15% performance boost over motherboard audio solutions while simultaneously delivering full audio effects!"

this is the first time i'm hearing this kinda stuff..mebbe i've been outta touch with tech a lil too much offlate :)

What they mean is that they relieve the CPU from any tasks related to audio so that the CPU can concentrate more on giving you more FPS.

but not all soundcards are like this.

The M-Audio Revolution is better for music and movies. But not for games as it slows down the games as the CPU is being used more for the audio rendering than the Audigy series.

That is why till now, if you were a gamer, you had to stick to the Audigy series. And now with the X-fi series that has not changed.
