little out of line..
i am having x1800xt-512MB. it is dual slot.
can i get any best VGA cooler. coz the card becomes too hot.
it is 56 when idle but goes till 85 under the load.
as per some experts on TE 1800 and 1900 extreme cards do have temp problem. what should i do to solve the temp issue.
or 85 is OK temp for my card...

85 is fine... if you want, you could use atitool to increase fan speeds(and noise as a consequence) manually if u feel uncomfortable with the temps.

temps are totally fine... you could also AS5 the core like funky did... that should drop temps by 5~8 degrees...

you really shouldn't bother until it crosses 95 though...

I used to get 55 degrees C at idle & 80 degrees C at load with this card which i sold to you as I had programmed ATI Tool to increase fan speed to 100% above 75 degrees C

so no need to buy a new third party cooler

why screw up the life of the fan by running at 100%... I say a little AS5 will do the trick...

85 still ain't too hot though... an x1900 will surely cross 95 in an identical setup...

use ATi tray tools to setup a fan speed profile. I am using the following profile.

45 deg - 45%

50 deg - 50%

55 deg - 55%

60 deg - 60%

65 deg - 75%

70 deg - 100%

My 1900XT stays 49 deg (45% fan speed) idle and max load temp I have seen is 72 deg (quickly comes down below 70 due to 100% fan speed). The cooler for 1800 and 1900 series is capable enough to handle the card. No need for a custom cooler.

thx guys..
i just use ATI tool to check temp.
let me try prog for FAN speed.
let darky come back i will try to fix AS5 on it.
btw these cards have self protection na?
like if temp cross its limit then it would shut down the system to prevent damage? is the setting by default or do i need to set it by any tool ?

In case temps become too high the card will likely freeze up causing a restart long before anything gets damaged...

If you aren't getting display corruption you're fine...
stop worrying!!

udit, darky, vandal - you might answer this question -

y'day i installed ATI tool and it showed me
Core - 597 :(
Mem - 693

i think it should be 625/750......

i tried to check what max core it supports and i got shock..
while ati tool was taking core up temp boosted from 56 to 80 in max 2 min of time. and then system was crashed. i checked logs later and it showed that max it could get is 623
it not even going to default speed it should be.. is there any problem?
is it got downclocked?

now idle temp is 56-59c so OK with me. :)
how do i program my ATI tool to increase FAN at particuler load etc...

it is absolutely fine

in desktop mode it stays at 597/693 in full screen it stays at 623/74x

@avi: those are 2d speeds. And your PC crashed mainly because you were raising the core speed without the fan speed being raised.

hmnnn..
that is what i dont know..
anyway going today to darky's place.
will get some help from him for this.

That's 2D speeds... Don't increase em, cause the fan speed doesn't increase... Unless u mod the fan which I don't recommend, and it screws up fan life, unless u plan to ditch the card soon... Then too if u do, don't post it here (bikega nahi yaar) :P

When u run 3d it auto speeds up, to 620~623 something... Mine hits 625 exact...So the x1900....

DON'T OC ON THE STOCK COOLER...:ohyeah:
