Guys, I'd sincerely appreciate some help from the X360 owners here. Got a couple of queries. :ashamed:

1. How do you guys load a game demo into a flash drive or a hard drive and then play it using the X360?

I did search the web and found that some utility can apparently 'inject' the game into the drive after it has been formatted using the console. However, when I try formatting a Sandisk 8GB flash drive or even a 160GB hard drive, I get a 'Performance Warning' message as indicated below:

(Apologies for the hotlinked image! Can't load the imagehost from the workplace)

Any pointers?

2. As a result of the above, I burned the Shadow Complex demo into a Moser Baer DVD+R el-cheapo disc using Windows 7's burner and burned it at 4x. The game worked fine from the game library although the X360 freezes at random locations. I think the media is to blame here since other games just worked fine even after prolonged gaming hours (a GeOW 2 marathon before lasted as much as 5 hours in a single stretch!) and I have never had an instance of such freezing before.

Is the X360 sensitive to poor quality media being used?

TIA! :)

Dunno much about this, but trying to help -

Slow performance

I'm getting a "Performance Warning” message, what does that mean?

If your device doesn't meet Xbox 360 performance recommendations, you may experience significant performance problems playing games from the device or saving games and profiles to it. Buy an Xbox 360-branded USB Flash Drive to ensure optimal performance.

So i think that means that ONLY an "Xbox 360-branded USB Flash Drive" is Recommended by MS which is big time BS.

And try using this Article to help you with the 360 demos on a Pen Drive, it it Google Translated so not the best grammar you will find :P - Google Translate

I use 360explorer and you need to inject the folders in the same path as it expects i.e Content/0000000/.....

Also burn them at 2.4X, not all flash drives are supported by Xbox 360

Yeah MS tries everything to get the Money. Branding a 25-30$ Thumb Drive as "XBOX 360 USB Flash Drive" and marking it as 51$.

Dunno why but the theme of this topic reminds me of the song "Arab Money" from GTA - EFLC (Super Song BTW). That's why i like sony way better.

^Dinesh, have you had any luck using a flash drive with your console? What media have you used so far for burning the games?

I'd usually avoid loading a demo on the thumb drives. Mainly because it has never worked for me. Not sure why, but I have tried it with Transcend, HP and Kingston drives, but nothing seems to bring up the demo in the 'Games Library'. Yesterday, I tried to update to the latest dashboard via my HP 8GB thumb drive and mid way through the update it coughed up a error code and failed the update, hence leading to a Red ring in my first quadrant. Rebooted the console and found that the install was partial and my avatar was missing. Loaded the update on my DVD-RW and that did the trick in a jiffy. So stick to the DVD media.

I had similar issues with demos like Shank and Limbo locking up using my Sony DVD-RW. But it was understandable, since it has been abused like hell and has multiple scratches at the base. So yes, it seems the drives are sensitive to scratched bases of the DVD media.

^Thank you Allwyn - yeah the data layer had very mild scratches. I guess it had to do with that probably. Will buy a Verbatim/Sony DVD+R disc if it is available around. Would avoid the flash drives - don't want to brick my console. :ashamed:

Thanks for the help people. <3

As reported by many users on BCG forums, the best media to use for X360 games is Verbatim DL discs. And burn them at 2.4x with ImgBurn. Never had any disc freeze on me.

It's not mandatory to use Verbatim Dual Layers. I have used both;Verbatim and National. I never had a National freezing up on me either. I usually install all my games to HDD, this reduced the dependency to read from disc. Besides, these are just demos that we're talking about. So it could do with any standard Re-Writeable disc, as long as it has scratch free base.

Gannu, if you're hooked upto XBL and have a Gold account, why not download it from there? Have you at least created a Silver account?

@Gannu
I have always used USB stick for demos and it always worked for me.

@Allwyn
Does the Wave patcher takes care of Wave 11 games ?

Not even created a Silver account yet. Did not bother connecting to the net at all. :ashamed:

I thought I'd be done with the present backlogs first and try Arcade ones. Loved playing Shadow Complex and it was fun until it lasted. Damn that disc! :@

Dinesh, what make/model of USB flash drive are you using btw?

Create a Silver account. I might have something which you can try and believe me, it's very exciting. :P
Will do it ASAP and keep you notified. :gap:

Muchos gracias mastah!

I have used Kingston Data Traveler G3 16Gb and another 8GB Transcend do not remember the model , but Corsair Thumb drive does not work.

Have burned the game to another Sony DVD-R. Hoping for no crashes this time. But would give it a shot only after I am done with Crackdown 2.
