Graphic Cards X800XT : doubts..need help

i recently got an AIW X800XT AGP card from the US..
i was kinda expecting a phenomenal performance gain over my 9800 PRO which i had earlier..

sys specs : P4 2.8 GHz, 512 MB 266 MHz, Intel 865 GBF mobo,AIW X800XT,ZEB 500W PSU, 2HDD's and 2 optical drives..

Catalyst drivers ver. 4.12

i know that my drivers are old and i need to upgrade to the 6.1 drivers that r out...but how much difference will that make..

right now i'm playing NFS:MW at 1024*768 reso..
with everything set at max i get around 30-35 fps and it kinda drops further when it starts raining..if i reduce the car reflection update rate to 1/3rd i get around 55 fps and the gameplay is quite smooth..
is this normal for the card or is it the drivers..or is it my CPU/RAM the limiting factor..
another game thts been disappointing is STRONGHOLD 2...i'm not able to turn on any eye candy at even 800*600 reso..the gameplay is very jittery if i do that..with everything at low/medium only the game is playable...

need help here guys...plz lemme know if u need any other info..
also shud i go in for OMEGA or any other 3rd party drivers??

thanks in advance..

^^Something is wrong with either your card or rest of the system. I have the same card, similar spec CPU (overclocked though) but 2GB of ram and i can play nfs mw at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and it averages around 40fps. UG2 will definitely perform better. I think the cause of all this are the divers. The performance in most stuff went up by 2-2.5 times. Upgrade the drivers first thing. 5.13 ran rather well on my sys. Haven't tested 6.1. Also make sure your mobo AGP drivers are installed.

When you are getting a hi-end card make sure the rest of your PC is upto it. In this case it prolly the ram and the cpu to some extent as well. Omega drivers are generally regarded the best third party drivers so give them a go as well.

Something is very wrong pal...There is no way that an X800XT will give 35 fps on MW...Its your card or sys or drivers (though drivers alone won't cause such a hit)

I have an asus X800XT and though I haven't played MW on it yet, looking at the graphics I wouldn't expect the card to really slow down......
The X800XT series pack a mean wallop still and deliver on IQ and fps in all the games except maybe FEAR which screws most other cards too..

Sorry forgot to suggest stuff: ATI's are driver sensitive, update them, I use the asus drivers only, ofcourse you'll use the regular ATI ones...512 MB RAM is way too low, and 266 MHz is a POS now...get a 512*2 ddr 400, your cpu is a bottleneck but well that's definitely not the prob. Also install windows n software on 1 hdd and games on the other to reduce loading times somewhat..
And for ATI never try to install new drivers on top of old ones...This works in Geforce cards, but I buggered my sys up good when I did this with the X800 and eventually got irritated and did a backup and complete format..
