Hi

I have a friend coming over next week.

After an endless discussion on PS3 and Tosh HD DVD player I have decided to go in with the XBOX 360 HD Drive :ashamed:

I have preferred to stick with the ocasional PC Gaming.

Hope it doesnt arrive dead. They are notorious for DOA :ashamed:

But yeah, no Region worries if this works :)

I have ordered the XBOX 360 HD Drive with KING KONG HD DVD free.

Amazon.com: Xbox 360 HD DVD Player: Video Games

and

4 in 1 HD pack

Amazon.com: The Best of HD DVD - Action (Troy Director's Cut / Blood Diamond / Wyatt Earp / Alexander Revisited The Final Cut) [HD DVD]: DVD: Various

I dont have an XBox 360. Il be connecting this with my Asus A8JP laptop...It has C2D 7200 and X1700 card...Hoping it will be able to drive the HD drive without much stuttering?

Thanks guys....

Is your laptop HDCP ready??

Thats the big question. I stated in that other thread that you started that this makes sense if you have a laotop / htpc with HDCP.

You still need HDCP for PC playback at HD resolution. I doubt that laptop is HDCP ready. Recently released laptops are HDCP ready, the A8JP has been around for a while.

This arrangement works flawlessly on my dv2500t.

There is workaround this but its long lengthy process.

Have you already purchased the drive??

Its when you connect it to Xbox you can get output on non HDCP devices.

When connected to PC this gets detected as Toshiba HD DVD drive.

Well I had a chat with my friend and asked him to purchase the HD Drive.

You maybe right...I dont think Asus A8JP has HDCP.

My Plasma cant display 1080p anyway...It accepts the 1080p signal and applies processing via some HD remastering chip in the Viera(watever tat means)

What happens with no HDCP :(

I have a Q....

I dont have HDMI on my laptop...As I said, Il be getting a Xbox 360 HD Drive which Il be connecting to the laptop. The laptop will then be plugged to the Plasma... I want to use the built in speakers of the plasma when I play DVDs using my laptop. How should I connect?

Will a DVI to HDMI cable do?

Damn, now the whole world knows I am a noob :ashamed:
