Xbox One Controller Play and Charge Kit Question

I have got a controller (which is old) that I use with my PC and I wanted to get this Kit (which is new) so my question is Can I use this kit with my controller? just put the battery in and charge it via any micro-USB cable. Would it work? Has anybody tried doing anything like this?
 
New kit is a bit different in dimensions. When I was looking for it for my new Series controller, some videos suggested that old battery didn't fit on new controller, the outer cover. Maybe vice versa is true as well. Check on youtube/reddit.
