Hi Everyone,

I have an XFX 6600GT 128MB DDR3 card(PVT43AND F7). I am faced with some heating problem. My idle temeprature is around 65-68 degrees, in games it goes upto 90 degrees max(average is 85-87 degrees). I saw that many in this forum has this card , so hope some at least will help me out. Well i have also taken out my HSF combination & reapplied paste to the core , but temps decrease only 2-3 degrees after that. What are the temperatures of others who have this card with the stock cooler. SO guys pliz help me out, i am being freaked out by the temps in my card.

Other users of this card also tell their temperaturesso that i can compare

Moreover , can anyone tell me where i will get the ZALMAN 6600Gt Cooler in INDIA.Pliz give me names of distributors/shops preferably in Delhi.(in other places will also do)

Mediatech used to distribute that, but they dont do it now ,they told me when i enquired thier Mumbai Head office.

thanx in advance

Wht drivers r u using???
did u check the temps thru the nvidia driver tab??

Dnt knw bout AGp, but hav a pci-e nd temps r bout 52C.....idle.

renegade dont worry. the temps are fine.

i have the same temps. idles on 55 - 65 & max 90 - 95 during games. no need to worry since it doesnt hang or gives artifacts in the games. working fine.
i have the ago xfx 6600gt.

You can also use a NV5 R2 Silencer for cooling ur GPU it comes with artic ceramique
use Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste and the temps will be under control.

Also check if your cabby is ventilated properly & cables are managed properly.
Do you have front intake or any sort of intake fan for taking fresh air inside.

The NV5 R2 doesnt fit the 6600 GT AGP , actually no artic cooling product does , reason being , the AGP 6600 GT has a very unique design . It has the PCIexpress to AGP Rialto bridge , which makes it impossible for the NV series to be mounted . The NV6 R2 is for the 6600 GT PCIexpress only , that is if u mistook it for the AGP version too .

So , there are only 2 products for the AGP 6600 GT , and some silent designs , but since we are looking at uber cooling stuff , les consider only the fanned coolers .

1) Zalman VF700-Cu

2) Some lesser known brand available in the US , cheaper than the Zalman ,dont remember the name . jus google and check .

Both the coolers work pretty effectively , many people have used the Zalman pretty effectively . U can read the reviews on the internet .

So by now u wud have set ur eyes on the Zalman VF700-Cu , pretty much i guess ;) .

SO where do u source it from ?? called Mediatech , the official disti's of Zalman ? ... " Sir we dont stock Zalman cooling devices " .... can u specially order one ? ..." No sir "
DAMN !!

Well , herez the solution and i guess ur pretty much in time ;) , and yea BTW's i have a gigabyte 6600 GT AGP , if ur wondering where am in gettin all this from ....hehe

back to the topic , ' funkymonkey ' , a beloved member of TE is ordering stuff from www.coolpc.com.au , hez kind enuff to use his credit card for all the members of TE , here is the link to that thread for ur convinience :http://www.techenclave.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4022
Here is the product link : http://www.coolpc.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=771

Alternatively u cud try this too :http://www.coolpc.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=621 , though am not pretty sure if it wud make a substantial difference , plus it depends on ur case physics too ;) ( the cabling , airflow and ventilation )

funky is taking the final requests on the 9th , so be sure to place it before that , u can trust him , I vouch for him and so wud many other TE members .

To give u a lil information for ur convinience ( Read this strictly after u have read funky's thread on mass order ) :

The Zalman VF700-Cu : 300 gms shipping weight

If 2kgs ordered : shipping approximately costs 47 rupees per 100 gms

If 3 Kgs ordered : shipping approximately costs 38 rupees per 100 gms

Plus custom duties which wud be at a max 10% . pretty nominal .

Seriously spending to so much on a VGA cooler is a no go especially for a mid level card. Just use the card if it artifacts return it, end of matter.

I had the same problem with my XFX 6600GT AGP. I had even posted a screen shot "on that other site" where it shown the temp peaking at a whopping 96 degrees! My eyes bugged when I saw that, I can tell you.

There was a suggestion that I change the cabinet instead of using some fancy coolers and I did change my cabby from a Kobian 118 to an Antec SLK3500 AMB. I also added two 120mm fans (one in the front as intake and one in the back as exhaust) and the temps reduced by 15-20 degrees. Now it peaks around 80 degrees and cruises at around 75 degrees. The idle temp has also dropped to 43-45 degrees.

I have also found that the room temperature play a BIG role. If the room temp is around 30-32 degrees, the peak temps on the card is much higher than if the room temp is even 5 degrees cooler.

Maybe you can try the same thing. What cabinet are you using at the moment? Any fans in the cabinet?

Thanx guys for all the advice.
But i dont have enough dough now ( i mean within 9th or 10th) to buy a Zalman Cooler.
I would let the gpu die as it has a 3 year warranty.
even if it goes for 2 years that would be enough for me to throw it away

Thanx Again

****Anyway installed a big table fan at 2200 RPM , its brings load temps to around 80-85 degrees at 580 core/1130 mem. So i guess thats an optimal solution for me as of now

well my advise for now would be to open the side panel of the cabby and run it like that... It will help surely... Another thing you can do is to mount an exaust fan on the side panel of the cabby just above the GPU... That would help too...

unless your facing artifacts or hanging problems, there's nothing to worry about (except the lifetime of your card being cut short :bleh: ). But if you continue HAVE problems, and dont want to get a card cooler (for whatever reason) you have the option of moding it yourself. Check these pages out.
Yaoyao's Budget cooler mod for the 6600gt
Ghetto prescott cooler mod for the 6600gt
Hey , i really linked the links given by you , repping ya for that ;) .

I seriously would have tried that mod , but since i have purchased this card from abroad , i really dont wanna experiment , chipped core , or worse burnt core is a big no no for me :D . I have ordered the Zalman VF700-Cu with funky's order , will post the experience here after i mod the card . laters ...

thanks ragin.

Wondering whether to do it with my incomin xfx 6600gt with my vantec aeroflow...just scared it might bend the card and snap it off the slot!

ohh yea , thatz one thing i was thinkin bt too ....will it defy gravity for a sustainable portion of time ..... i wonder ...;).....

guys here mine mod for that .......reduced idle temps from 65 to 58 and load temps from 85-90 to 65-68 .....

Hey Rahul,

Can u tell me how did u actually fixed the fan on the stock heatsink
Actually I am the worried guy who actually started this thread
Regenade

yeah its the stock heat sink.... i have only fitted a fan ...... anyways i am working on fitting the athlon heat sink onto it but it is very heavy and i am serching for AGP card supporter which is unfortunatily not available in india.....

is that thermaltake fan 60mm 70mm or 80mm.

& have u removed the stock fan which was in the heatsink or that fan is still there.

its 60MM high RPM(5500) fan with good airflow .......comes with cu+ cooler from thermaltek ....... actually that small fan is stilll there because diconnecting that will not let the comp start .....there is some security feature i think .....
