Graphic Cards XFX 6800GT problems

Man....some more ammo for a 2 year personal grieviance. An XFX 6800GT AGP 256MB has just failed in my office, our hardware dept. says the card is faulty. Just a couple of desks adjacent to me...

Ofcourse this one ain't personal and there are other XFX cards running well here but this corrobrates my problem I had a GF 4 ti 4200 and a 6600GT PCIe fail on me which were my own cards...A pine GF2 MX 400 failed a little earlier.

The problem started with minor display faults in GTA 3 at that time, now in games like farcry etc where the sky and shadows are not being drawn properly with black borders and even sand on the beach around the character replaced by black.

Now maybe some of u guys will understand my solitary stance when I say that accd to me xfx is a POS and you'll understand why I when possible stay away from the brand...

I've used asus, leadtek, giagbyte and msi and not had any probs with their cards.

This is not a hate message or any shit like that, but any explanations???

No heating issues, rooms @ 20 degrees permanently, even my house in Jabalpur, the comps were in ac rooms. WTF's going on....:@

Now please noone slam me with "I got a good xfx with no probs" Like i said I'm not maligning any brands here...

And the 3 other cards were bought with my money...
 
Well if the card is in warranty,then give it for replacement.Whats the big deal ?
Also all those cards that died on you,were they used in the same system ?
If yes, could you please mention the entire config of that machine ?
 
How old is the card? Maybe you can get a replacement. I think XFX changed the cooler on the card after the initial launches had some issues wrt that. They called it some rev2 or something like that. Don't remember if it was for the 6600gt or the 6800gt.
 
if u are taking about farcry then its problem with the game ..... install the patches upto 1.33 and every thing will be fine ..... same thing happened to me and installing the patches made it right ...... go to farcry forums for more detail every nvidia chipset needs 1.33patch or some textures looks black .... and this happenes only on high details ....

EDIT:- can u put the screenshot of GTA 3 .....

it was 6600GT
 
u ask whats the big deal...God i could really get into details and then well....

I am educated enough to know if they failed on the same system that something was wrong there...

NO SIR they failed on different systems... At the time xfx had 1 year warranties. except the 6600GT....

The 6800GT is an office card and i could care a sh1t less what they do with it...but its in warranty so i assume there should be little inconveniece.

My personal cards were just like 1 year 3 months etc..so the timing was perfect (1 yr warranty)...

OK rahul gotcha but the card in the office has failed, completely.

And my cards (except the 6600GT) failed before farcry was released. :P

well they're mostly used for vid editing etc. in my shop so I haven't personally used the cards that much.

I usually buy xfx for the shop cause asus etc are costly..
but u know wht my personal preferences are :P

i think XFX is having very nice and well built cards ..... if u can give any proofs then its ok otherwise i will say stop saying bad things about good companies ..... i know wat ur preferences are but stilll u are buying XFX .... i think XFX is the brand which provides every new card available here in india ..... and there support is better too ..... and i can bet its better than asus .... i have owned too many cards and mobos from ASUS .....

mine ASUS A7N8X D motherboard was not booting and the service center said no to replace it and repaired it(that i don't like) ..... when mine XFX 6600GT went bad due to too much OC i was running it @ core 612 and memory 1210 .... they changed it without saying a word .....

Oh man just what I was hoping to prevent. a brand war...please my firm doesn't compete with xfx....

asus or msi aren't paying me any royalty to blaspheme. Its just a series of misfortunes that have come my way using their cards...

And lastly yes their support is good, it better be...

And they're a relatively new brand so problems are bound to occur. I understand how IT companies function. Their 7800 series may be definitely better.

But when u say they're better than msi and asus well sorry don't agree...

again personal opinion not written in stone..

I played GTA 3 in maybe 2002 or something not sure....you expect a screenshot after some 10 HDD changes and 2 CPU upgrades, 3 RAM upgrades. :P

My personal PC's are used @ home, but the older ones I put into my shop (video editing and computer assembling). One of the shop systems then gets scrapped. So you see I am always swapping components.

Also the farcry problem was with the office card, which has been there for some time now, but the card is not working now so there's no point is there...

For example rig 2 and 3 in my siggy are home in Jabalpur, but the MX518 is with me in Chennai. The current sys I am using in Chennai in my room is a 2.4HT with hyper 48, 875P neo (3.2 and 865GBF is in Jabalpur used @ home), FX 5700 256 MB, 2 GB RAM, no speakers, SB live DE 5.1 sc.
A2ZX is now being used with the loggy Z5500D @ home...

See how I switch components. So u cannot say I haven't tried various combinations
 
Well it is true that quality of XFX cards was horrible in the GF4 days.Their GF4 Ti4200 must have been the worst Ti 4200 ever made.
But they improved immensely since the GF FX series cards.
The GF 6 series is extremely good and the 7 series is even better.

I was just asking you a simple question, i dont think i questioned your technical prowess anywhere.Then whats with this attitude man ?

Well not exactly dude.Yes internationally they are but in India they are well established,definately more than Leadtek,MSI,Gigabyte,Asus[only w.r.t grafix cards]
 
Well to tell you the truth, I find nothing wrong with xfx. A card dies here and there everytime, especially in indian weather. What stands out is the after sales service xfx provides. A 6600GT died in our lab and it was replaced in 3 days. Now try beating that. Its crazily hard to get replacements for any other brand. Asus has ridiculous prices which are definitely not worth it. XFX has the best price,availability and after sales service in India and I think is single handedly responsible for making cards more affordable (though there is still miles to go on that front). enuf said :P.

agreed that after sales is good....agreed that asus is costly...but only moreso in India...cause rashi screwes, slices and dices any asus grahaks who come their way...

and lastly agreed that xfx has played a major role in India in making cards affordable....miles to go (understatement of the year pal)

as u said in ur first post care to mention which problem with which card u said there was some problem in GTA 3 and the according to the title of the thread i undreastand that the problem was with the XFX 7800GTX .... and y is ur office card is not working if u don't want the solution of the problem then y are u starting thead .....

and every where u are stating that u have this that ...... but till date i have not seen any proof ..... not a single benchmark or anything ..... and it doesn't matter to me but ur XFX thingy is really annoying me .....
