guys i hv a problem.........yesterday i bought xfx GTX 260 216......while playn games it makes sm strange creaking sounds...its not d FAN SOUND......fan is very silent ......only during playn games it makes dat sound or else in 2d mode its fine.........is it normal as i cn play all games very smoothly..........or shud i RMA IT plz reply.......... :(
 
I'm assuming since you are able to bootup and play games perfectly, its not the insufficient power warning sound. Which means the sound has to be from the fan, there are no other moving parts in a graphics card.

Since you just purchased it yesterday, you should have a clean RMA without hassles, easiest way out imo.
 
Are you sure that the creaking sound is coming from the card ? I too hear such sounds but in my case they come from the hard disk.

it is coming form d gpu part only, coz evn whn d fan is at 80% n idle in desktop der is not screeching or tearing sound...........its only whn i play games such as crysis or far cry 2 der is dat sound........i hv heard dat it may b coz of sm rotating coil or sm uncapped capacitors inside.........is dat true???? ne GTX 260 users here to shed sm light........
 
Screecching sound normally can come from coils or capicitors which are not in very goood shape. I would suggest you RMA it immediately as the chances of it going bust is pretty high. Also make sure that its from the GPU. It could also be from your PSU if the load is too high. But seeing that you have a vx450, I think its probably the card, try it out on some other system and then report back.
 
thnks 4 all d replies..i wl chck it in my friends system wid higher wattage n if problem persists i wl rma it.........but d sound is coming frm GPU only......i hv chcked d PSU many times for dat sound and also d PSU is only 10 days old so chances of grphics card being bad is high.......
 
From what i have heard, its pretty normal for capacitors to make such sounds when stressed and is not a sign of instability neither a valid reason for RMA.

I am not so sure of the above statement, but i THINK thats what i have learnt from some similar threads.

Capacitors making a screeching sound is not good. Period. The card may continue to work normally, but the screeching clearly means something is not working as per the specifications.
 
lol its just squealing MOSFETS and not buzzing caps ! Usually it shouldn't be of any problem as long as its coming from the MOSFETS and not the caps
 
Its only been a day since purchase, I dont see he has to compromise over even a minor aspect. He could pretend nooby and get it replaced without the slightest troubles.
