Hi folks,

My trusted old Antec True Power 480 died a few days ago and i purchased a Corsair 650TX from TheITWares via techenclave.

Replaced the SMPS and was happy the comp was up and running.

After that my 7800GT graphics card said bye bye...

Being a Bangalorean and staying in Pune is very frustrating for a guy who is used to purchasing from SP Road.

I required my computer to get back up and running asap and had no other option except DCC Deccan Gymkhana. I paid 9600 bucks for a XFX 6790 where as for the same price i could have purchased a 6850 in Bangalore.

My frustrations dont stop here....
I run my system on a dual boot with Windows 2000 server and Windows XP.

Now all is well with XP. But i do not have catalyst drivers for Win 2000 and hence the resolution is defaulted to 640 x 480. Imagine that on a 21" screen :(

I'm sure i would not be able to find a driver for a EOL operating system like Windows 2000 but is there any way i can push up the defaulted resolution on Windows 2000?

Please help.

dude i faced same problem. there are no Server OS driver made by ATI.

however i use Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 server. so you can forcefully give him Windows xp and Windows7 x64 bit drivers and it works. but dont expect gaming and all.

just good resolution.

not sure about Windows 2000. try with windows xp drivers...if that dosent work then bye-bye windows 2000 or ATI :(

I tried to install the new catalyst 11.8 XP drivers.
There is a "detection" phase after which the setup shows you a list of components to install.

In Windows 2000 the "graphics drivers" component is never shown. It shows only Catalyst Console to install.

I am running Windows 2K Server with SP4.

What to do? :(

Missing my 7800GT a lot now. It played TF2 at decent frame rates on XP and let me do all i need to on Win2K too.

Finally took the dive.
Busy porting applications to Windows 2003 Server.

I tried installing AMD Catalyst 11.5 through to 11.9 (downloaded this stuff from guru3d.com).
I keep getting this error:
"Current version not installed. ATI CIM Installation Package"

I then took another approach - via the Device Manager --> Update Drivers route for the default graphic card. I pointed it to the XP drivers in the 11.9 drivers extracted folder and it worked.

But it does not seem to identify the HD resolution. My monitor has a horizontal resolution of 1080 and that is not available hence the fonts are all funny in appearence.

I have put in a thread asking for help in this regards.

Hope i get some help to figure this out too.

Thanks for the push. 2003 hopefully will stay for some time to come.
