i am very irritated by this.
this happens only in the main loading window.once i reach the login window.everything happens in a jiffy!
has any one of u faced this problem?does any one know the solution?i am helpless right now.
i scanned my system with spybot, but it came up with nothing. so what can it be??please......help me out:confused:

1. Try booting into safe mode a couple of times. How long does that take?

2. Run Chkdsk /r, see if it comes up with any bad sectors

Let us know the results :)

I read somewhere that this can happen when you had previously attached some hardware (most prob a drive) and that has been subsquently removed - it seems XP is searching for the removed drive at the time when it seems to take long to start up.

Also it has been suggested to empty out the Prefetch directory which is located under the Windows directory - this has helped me speed up my XP startup when I felt it had slowed down.

this happened to me when my ide cable's were plugged in my cd-rw and the power was off on cd-rw kindly make sure u have all of ur optical drives and ide drives powered on also try removing all usb devices and boot.
