I have HP Pavilion dv9704tx.

Right now i have Vista & Windows 7 installed on it, both are running fine.

Yesterday i tried to install XP for checking game performance purpose.

But the installation failed due to SATA HDD.

i got this error.
setup-did-not-find-any-hard-disk-drives.png

After some googling, found this tutorial Resolving "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows XP Installation :: the How-To Geek that states downloading the storage drivers & slipstreaming it to XP CD.
Now that tutorial confused me about the drivers.

which driver am i supposed to download?
chipset driver dowanload page : http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...ge+Manager&OSVersion=Windows+XP+Professional*

do i d/l 32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility?
or Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager
My laptops' Chipset info:
Detected Chipset: Intel(R) PM965 Express Chipset
Memory Controller: 82PM965
I/O Controller: Intel(R) 82801HBM/HEM I/O controller hub (ICH8M) SATA Controller found in AHCI mode

HP Laptop driver/software download page-
XP Driver page : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=in&product=3642400&lang=en

Vista Driver page : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=in&product=3642400&lang=en

can someone please tell me the drivers to d/l, its freaking confusing.

windows xp does not have proper drivers for laptop and hence it has to be installed externally so u get such an error . windows vista or windows 7 have proper drivers for laptop, hence they don't have such problems

a simple way to install windows xp.

boot to bios.. (F10)

goto sata mode and Disable it.

install windows xp it should find your HDD now...

SATA Drivers needs to be loaded during installation of windows , which is done in 7 & vista. but not in xp.

to enable native sata support in XP...

Integrate the SATA Drivers to Windows XP.

Press F6 during the "Setup is copying files". Load SATA drives to the floppy drive and insert it in the laptop FDD. Press 'S'. Select the required SATA driver from the List and you are set.

sorry i didnt mention about the BIOS, my laptop's BIOS doesnt have the option to change SATA modes.

i know the cause of error & what was the solution for it.

did you guys read my post?

the doubt was which driver to download.

I found the answer, its the 32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility that has to be downloaded.

anyways, if other HP Laptop users want to install XP, then read this - General XP Downgrade Guide for HP Laptops - HP Support Forum

maxEasyGuide: A) Slipstreaming SATA driver into WinXp boot cd using nLite

very useful guide.

floppy drive on laptop?

even my 2005 desktop didnt come with a floppy drive, it wasnt even in option list :P

BIOS should probably have an option like "Enable AHCI" - Disable this and try installing. It will work out. There will be no need for any drivers.

IIRC, you can reenable the AHCI mode after XP installation is done. Not sure about this though.

I do not know which drivers will be needed.
