Hi guys,

I have P4 2.8GHz, 1 GB PC. I have installed XP Pro on it. I want to install XP home/pro on another HDD in same PC. Will it be Possible/Advisable?

The presen installation is many years old and have so many porgrams installed on it for wife. I want another clean/quick install for me to surf & D/l.

Pls give your feedback, advice.

P.S. I have installed Win7 on the above said other said HDD, but my antique Mobo doesn't seem to be having enough driver support for Win7. that's why another XP.

Yes, it is possible. Go about the install the normal way, just ensure that you make note of the partition (& its info) on which you plan to install XP as it will ask you in the DOS like menu.....

yes of course possible..

instead why dont you use some software cleaners or tuners to clean up the trash.. uninstall unwanted software, remove unwanted programs from the start up, delete temp files and your system will be as good as new.

recommended softwares -> C cleaner, revo uninstaller, tune up utilities..

Hi Kevin, I suggest you install Windows XP Home as a fresh installation on a seperate partition along with a good antivirus like Microsoft Security Essentials. My PC config is similar to yours, although mine has 2GB RAM. Personally I think XP Home is a lot faster compared to Pro ;). Install only necessary programs to keep your PC fast. If you install too many junk software then your OS may get slowed.

Which is your current mobo that is not supported by Win 7?

Thx guys I will now install xp home and see.

@vicky I do it regularly. Bu,I believe a clean & fresh install will work faster, as present win7 install is faster.

@GPMlore It's intel 865gvhz, I have installed win7 but 1. No display drivers are available, can't even play solitaire. 2. LAN drivers work off & on that even only when audio drivers are disabled.

I suggest you upgrade your setup to a new Intel or AMD one. I865gvhz doesn't have an AGP slot, otherwise you could have used a nVidia or ATi/AMD AGP card and run Windows 7. Your current CPU and RAM too are quite slow to run Win 7. So upgrading is the best option available.
