Check under Event Viewer and see if any reports of problems at times when Computer crashes. Also try with swtiching off auto reboot on problems and see if this helps.

hmmm
eazy.. how do i determine its a psu fault..which i think is the case...as i have had my psu repaired thrice in the last 2 months :( ... is it overloading?????

well, repaired PSUs dont last long. Once ur PSU is screwed its better u replace it with a new one, n perhaps of better quality. Wud it be possible for u to borrow a good working PSU n test it on ur rig for a while? If u cud do that, then u cud come to some conclusive opinion

try to get a fren lend u his psu try tht
if it wrks fine then get a new gud quality psu
otherwise ...there's sum other prob in ur pc

what` are the chances that my psu will screw u my mobo and cpu in particular. if the problem persists??? :P.. i `m really curious.. people.. please let me know..

Hey try checking the bios battery if its not weak, i get BSOD when my bios battery is weak also check for any latest drivers that u might have installed.

to check if bios battery is good: if u have an led then use that and see if light glows else use a multimeter ;)

I dont wanna scare u or anything :P but here's what happened to me..

one of the SATA HDD power connectors i had received was faulty. The result - 3 blown up PSUs, one HDD replaced, one mobo repaired, one graphics card replaced and countless sleepless nights ;)

Thankfully, except the PSU all other things were repaired/replaced under warranty.

hmm i`m not worried about anything inside my comp except my hard disk.. i have 2*160gb hard disks.. whcih i dont wanna get rid of....
btw can i raid 2*160 gb pata hard disks?? can i? please tell me??(when i attach the hard disk to a motherboard that supports raid)
hmmm ok so here is my system -
asus a7n266-vm se
512 mb hynix ram
geforce 4 mx 440se
2*160gb pata hard disks..
hmm.. 12 year old 13" moniter...

so should i get a 350w smps?
also my cpu temp is usually never below 50 degress celcius? and i have seen it go above 60 degreed quite often. though mobo temp rarely goes above 55 ever.
hmm and hard disks too get very hot!!!
what shouldi do?

That mobo does not support PATA Raid. I am not too sure if you get a PATA RAID PCI card..

YES you do - Promise makes them. Check out this page...

@chic_magnet - If you feel you have drive problems than DONT Raid your drives - it will be a disaster. :O

As you must be aware a problem on one drive in a RAID 0 setup and all data from both drives will be KAPUT !!! I did RAID my 2 Maxtor SATA drives for a few days but as I did not see much improvements in data throughput speeds besides the Benchmarking programs I removed the RAID setup.

Mobo temps about 55C seems to be very high. This would happen if you dont have proper air circulation in the case. Also can be caused if the cables are not kept out of the air flow passage. What temps do you get with case side panel open and a ceiling/table fan blowing into the case ? As a comparison - my Mobo temp is always at max 34c or lower depending on room temp at that time. When you get a Mobo temp of 55C at that time the drives must be really hot. From my experience drives normally run at a higher temp than the Mobo !!

Herez a temp guide for AXP users in Indian conditions:
CPU max<60(this refers to HSF temp not the diode temp. as very few mobos have that sensor)
Mobo max<40(35 ideally but sometimes the amient temp. here is higher than that!)
drives<45

ya definately the temp of my comp goes down by a few degrees when i open the case and keep it open for a few hours... hmm i think then i`ll buy some fans and an smps i guess :) very sooooon...
now its been two whole days since i got the crashes.. and my comp hasn`t crashed yet since then...... hmmm. what should i make of it now?
