it depends on your use

as a general entertainment (music/movies) the studio
for gaming , xps

both have same stuff. even in XPS can use for movies and music. my main thing is about build quality?

go with the Studio 15 ,its good compared to XPS 1530,its my personal experince ,i deal with Dell portables and dell desktops ( working with Dell BPO) overall performance studio 15 is doing good than the XPS
PS: I did say tat abt the performance its a survey based on the calls and issues on the 2 systems

I would suggest going with the studio 15 as well. While 1 year premium warranty is a positive the 8600gtm is not a positive considering its high failure rate.

thanks for help. there is less issue on studio because its very new system.

I ve heard some people say that the studio is a little flimsy. how is the build quality compare to XPS?

BTW how is VOSTRO 1510 ? same configuration i get for 60K.

thanks. i am attracted to XPS just because of the build quality. i am hardly going to use for any games lolz. but i am not sure about studio quality.

if you dont intend to use them for gaming, i would suggest going with either an ATI solution for discrete or the standard intel onboard.

the nv cards have been showing very high failure rates and if you check out dell's official site its an acknowledged issue.

thanks :) but i think it depends on luck lolz. on my current dell laptop i use same card so far no problems. but i hardly care coz i know dell after sales is too good. they will do replacement if any problems.

mate i checked vostro 1510 and i am getting batter machine at lower rates. do u have any idea ? is it good?

It has nothing to do with Luck.

It is a design failure which has been acknowledged by even nvidia themselves. nvidia g84 & g86 are the chipsets affected by it.

from what ive heard the build quality on Vostro laptops is pretty good since they are for business users. however, the screens used on the vostros are supposed to be of very poor quality with lots of bleeding issues etc.

have you considered the fact that a 15" laptop will the HEAVY (especially the xps, no idea about the studio). If you dont mind a slightly smaller screen then you can also consider the 1420.

thanks buddy!

yes 15 inch are heavy. studio n XPS both have almost same weight. anyways i am very much confused today lolz. i checked some reviews too some people say vostro 1510 got good non glossy screen. i will upate u guys once i buy by today evening.
i will get any one of these lolz

That's the 8400GS on the XPS M1330 you're referring to. You're mistaken.

Dell's build quality on the XPS isn't that great. The coloured strips they use on the body is a kit, and they do get loose with use. Radeon HD3450 will be as good as the 8600GT, and battery life will be better on the former.

fyi.. g84 & g86 have both been affected. also affected are a certain as yet unidentified series of MCP's

NVIDIA GPU Update for Dell Laptop Owners

Fri. Jul. 25, 2008

Earlier this month, sites like Ars Technica and ZDNet blogged about NVIDIA’s statement regarding a potential issue with some of NVIDIA's Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) used in notebooks. According to NVIDIA, these affected GPUs are experiencing higher than expected failure rates causing video problems. Though this issue is not unique to Dell, some of these affected GPUs are used in certain Dell laptops. That's why I wanted to take a few minutes here to explain the issue and to let customers know what to do next.

the calculations arent done on the no the no of system sold ,its involves some calculations, which makes us to give feedback to the sales and the production teams on what they need to work on and what are the issues ,it doesnt depend on the volumes sold :P
