yesterday...i was feeling bored...was trying out old stuff...since the soundcard on my mobo sucks..was thinking of going for a creative soundblaster 5.1 .
Then i realised i had a 7 yrs old YAMAHA XWAVE QS3000A in my poccesion..plugged it in...man .... it is awesome...the level of amplification of yamaha cards is unmatchable by even creative 5.1...but a new problem arose..
i am not able to shutdown the system/...it automatically restarts..
if i remove the card...everything goes fine.
i shutdown the system & insert the card(powersource was on) & the computer was on all by itself...
how can i tackle this?;) any suggesions?? or shouldi give up on the old star?

or it is incompitibility?

Assuming you are using XP :

First things first download the latest drivers for your Yamaha soundcard.

Second, this is a workaround, i think your system is crashing during shutdown, to solve that problem - go to Control Panel/System/Advanced/Startup and Recovery/Settings/System failure - take out the tick mark from automatically restart. Reboot, check if your system restarts on shutdown.

I dont think this is software problem.

Have you looked at the PCI contacts properly?

Sure it aint shorted somewhere in the leg? bcoz pc starting all by itself is odd. Try to disable wake on LAN or any such setting in bios and try again.

See if this solves problem.

My old PC used to start by itself ifi inseted this one anscient PCI GFX card for some reason. Disabled wake on LAN and one more setting which i cant remember back then and it solved this issue.
