YAY windows 8 is out on MSDN

Overall, this could be a decent experience. Say you have the Microsoft Surface (intel) tablet you can do your power apps on the regular/classic desktop and be in the Metro UI for leisure (browsing, tweeting, facebook etc).

There are annoyances though, like IE10 doesn't allow plugins in the Metro UI, but it works if you open IE in the classic desktop! (Example being, the Photosynth website with its Silverlight plugin) - they say it will be updated to HTML5 soon.

The built-in Media Player doesn't play DVDs, you need to go to the "Add Features to Windows 8" tool to purchase a product key to install stuff like Media Center! Of course, installing VLC player works but again it switched to classic desktop.

Has anyone been able to check out Hyper-V on Win8 Pro x64 edition? It needs a modern CPU with "SLAT" (second level address translation, I think) which my 4.5 year old Q6600 doesn't do.

Hey guys i have a doubt?
1.i have windows 7 ultimate edition original so how much will it cost me to upgrade to windows 8?
2.If i upgrade to windows 7 to windows 8 will still be able to use my windows 7 key to install windows 7 or will i be only able to use windows 8 thereafter

hey kuduku ,the first and foremost thing i would like to tell you is that the removal of the start button isn't such a nuisance as people claim,in fact i think the start menu is better.its fast and after a while(say an hour or two) its intuitive.i am sure you will like it.As for your query ,i am currently running win 8 so i installed the app you have provided and it works as advertised, tell me what you want to know about it.it functions just like it is shown in that video on the app's site so there is nothing really to say about it.but i still think(through experience) that the start menu is actually pretty fabulous(and FAST,VERY FAST).Instead of slowing the OS down ,as most would expect, the whole Metro integration has really sped up the OS.Also i would only recommend you to install win8 if you have the original keys(through whatever means you get them),otherwise your win will stay deactivated and there will be watermarks and notifications to keep reminding you of that very fact.if you can bear with them, then by all means go ahead(no one really knows how long the deactivated windows actually runs,my guess is 30 days, some say an indefinite amount of time).PM me if you want to know about "other" means of activation.

Installed Win 8 on another laptop . My findings sourceforge start menu crashed every day once/twice . Shifted to Stardock and till now it has never crashed . I am very happy with Win 8 with stardock start menu . It feels Win 7 on steroids . Antivrus integration as people have commented is good and its light . Startup is faster than Win 8 . Win 8 is not a flop . I dont use the metro but Win 8 feels stable and fresh and light

I would love to do that, but what i specifically meant by writing "other means" was that these methods are not exactly legal, hence i think i can't post them on TE here.

and kuduku,it's really fast, isn't it?i mean even when i restart my pc after a bad Gpu OC attempt ,i expect some delay in the OS's start up but still its as zippy as the flash.

Why not get the Release Preview and try yourself guys. I tried both Consumer Preview and Release Preview and I will conclude Windows 8 is a superior OS than it's previous. The only problem may be the compatibility with some applications, games.I used steam, origin and its work perfectly. Spiderman Web of Shadows was giving me some problem in maximizing the screen (in the consumer preview). I think its better if you get used with the Metro UI rather than using any third party start menu. Pin all the important or frequent apps in the Metro and Task Bar.

Tried Windows 8 RTM original from Dreampark, Amazing it is, worked charmingly on my 5 years old laptop. Though its frustrating that there is no start button, but it works out in the end, ya Metro sucks.

And I will wait till the official release before using it as the main OS, cause of huge drivers issue.

Yes its zippy fast . i haven't restarted from last 7 days and use hibernate only . It hibernates and starts fast than Win 7 . Till now haven't found anything which is in compatible . The Stardock start menu button is awesome , haven't opened the metro UI from last 7 days . Overall its a nice stable OS
