Ok... decision time.

2x4850s (for 23k) or 1 x 4870 for 19k?

I personally am tilting towards the 4870 as it has enough power for quite some time.

Mobo -- IP 35 E. Cheap, fast and good for oc'ing.

E8400.

4 GB Gskill GBPQ. Prime will have this in stock?

Ask ur dad to get a 4870 from bangkok; retails at 12~13k there; :P

Dont waste cash for that here; I can direct u to a shop at the Pantip Plaza there where I got my stuffs; :)

any specific reason you want it with Indian warranty???? Get the 4870 from KMD and save a couple of grands at the least....

why kmd?
because of 10 times better service & warranty than Local Dealers :)

Oh oh; If something goes kaput, wont u need to send back the thing to him?? :bleh:

U're in Kolkatta; assuming u bought some stuff from ur local dealer, ur parents can get the thing replaced in a matter of days if not hrs;

What if with KMD?? Dont u need to courier him the stuff??? And wait until replacement arrives from the US???

Yeah with the stuff Rashi deals with like XFX, ASUS etc. it might be worth getting those from KMD;

Hws this 10 times applicable here otherwise?? :S

Local warranty from dealers like Tirupati [Phoenix], PRIME etc. are equally better; ;)

agree with gannu here. kmd is a good dealer. but he has his own limitations. local companies have of late being improving on their service terms by miles.

one cannot just blindly say get stuff from kmd or locally. previously warranty factors could have played a part.. but now that we have local players like tirupati and corsair providing good local warranty coverage, its become more of a pricing issue than anything else.. and even that is fast changing. the 4850 has finally started to sell at rates which can be termed as being very decent(despite the premium on it.. ati is finally on par with nvidia on the pricing front in india).. it wont be long before we can say goodbye to imports for everything but the most difficult to procure locally items.

@Stalker --- Can you give me the contact email of Prime? I'll contact them to find out availability of Gskill RAM.

e8400 - 9k
abit ix38 quad gt - 10.5k (minimum if you want to use crossfire in the future)
Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory via kmd - 5.6k shipped
corsair hx620w - 6.4k
Sapphire 4870 via kmd - 17.1k shipped
Dell E248 - 19k
total - 63.5k

I was thinking of going for a cheap (but good performing, good oc'ing) mobo like the IP 35-E or Pro now and a single 4870.

Later on, IF I feel the need for morep ower, I'll upgrade the mobo and add another GPU.

So, please list some good mobos which are cheap but oc and perform well.

^^U've already done the best by selecting the IP35 E but the motherboard HAS been phased out by abit; nowhere to be seen on the website; :(

The newer P45 chipsets OC like crazy taking the FSBs to 600FSB on that;

Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TPower I45 LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Lol, NE itself has it stated WR is 675FSB on that; :P

And considering that it retails with some exotic features for 6k odd via the KMD route it might be well worth;

The same applies for the Asus P5Q series motherboards;

had I been u, I'd have opted for the P45 chip over the P35; ;)

Ok... P45 it is. I dont want to bring in the mobo via KMD.

I would rather pay an extra 1k for local warranty.

hmm.. that would actually make some sense.

i remember getting a quote of some 5.7k for one of those crazy OC Biostar TP45 mobo's... the P43 chipset is also supposed to a crazy oc'er...

i like that term.. crazy oc :p

p45.. dunno about other brands.. you do get asus starting at around 8.5k here in Mumbai. Biostar should be avail soon enough if not avail already.

For an OCer- E7200 is a way too vfm chip, not to buy imho.
9.5x helps.

400x9 and a 1066 fsb chip means most decent DDR2 800 RAM kits work OK on P35 mobos- some issue with minimum memory divider available on P35 mobos with 1333 fsb chips- iirc. :ashamed:

Supra did find the locally available Transcend to perform amazingly well. :)

IP-35E is a good enough mobo for it's price and as potent as the pro when it comes to OCing iirc.
IX38 Quad GT etc if you want to explore CF later and better NB+SB+pwm cooling.

P45 based mobos are making an appearance locally, are supposed to perform great and look not so expensive- maybe the gurus can throw more light on the same. :)

Biostar makes killer OCers for the price but having used a few TP35 when IP35E was quite expensive compared to TP35, i don't prefer and will avoid the Biostar for build quality and long term stability.
(Though the one my friend has works OK till date- touchwood- but no OC of any sort.)

For those suffering from OCD, get an E8400.
For those who love to buy stuff that offer more vfm(as in more cores per buck), even if they have no real use for the same, get the Q6600. :P

Call me a cheapskate but i find more fun and satisfaction in taking a fairly cheaper E7200 (266x9.5) to 3.6G than a E8400(333x9) to 3.6Ghz. :P

Get a HX620/TX650 preferably- i don't like any sort of scrimping on psu at all.

Cooler- ultima90i sounds more than enough. :P

n00bspeak over. :ashamed:

Get a 4870 for a 24"... And if you are getting it cheaper then the KMD's price get one for me too :P...

P.S. If you are getting the card from anywhere outside India then get the Visiontek. They offer a lifetime warranty unlike sapphire which offers 2 yrs like most of the other ATI's board partners.

Lol, Sapphire and Powercolor has 3 yrs not 2; :P

And either way, lifetime warranty is just another marketing gimmick; :)

Bikey has summed it pretty well; :D

And Supra was telling me today morn that the Biostar TP45IP doesn't do too good in ther performance front apart from the higher FSBs; Apparently the higher FSBs're due to the VTT and the VMCH tied to each other hence cannot be altered separately;

Hence my vote goes for Asus P5Q series for the P45 boards;
