Hi,

My Download Box was powered by Sesonic 380W PSU which went Bad.RMA took 25days:no:, I had to purchase generic iball psu 450w in meantime.

now,

the distri has given me new Tagan TG500 which has max power of 600w as replacement.

Now, I was wondering I really need such High power PSU? as My system is running fine on ibal psu from past month. maybe I should sell tagan and get some cash for future purchases.

Here is my config:

Intel E5300 @ 2.6Ghz

Gigibyte G31 mobo

2GB RAM

500GB HDD

DVD writer

No graphics card

please suggest

No new computer system purchase in future : Pawn the Tagan

Yes, new computer system purchase in future : Keep the Tagan but do not hook it up.

Your dealer has given you another PSU of the same value. Honestly, although the deal isn't all that bad, swapping a Seasonic unit for a Tagan one is not a sensible idea. In any case, what other PSU do you intend to buy?

Did Tirupati give you Tagan as the replacement?

wat exactly happened to ur psu , i m curious to know coz i m using the same psu as yours

and why didnt they give u the same psu as replacement

AFAIK , generic psu's are not efficient enough , since urs is a d/l rig with 24/7 on , u shud use the tagan one only

It went bad, about not replacing with psu same. Man, I am glad somehow I got the replacement. tirupati RMA here in Jaipur is not good:no:

then iball PSU which is just month old would go waste and not to mention I would running 500w psu on system which needs less than 200watts of power. Seems like a overkill to me

If the iball one is not efficient to give the 200 watts of power you need it might take 300 watts from your socket to give that 200 watts while the tagan might take less watts to give you the 200 as it is more efficient.

Just sell of the sad iball psu before it creates a problem in your motherboard or HDD.

Moreover, you are basically overspending money in your electricity bills with this 40% efficient PSU :|

You have a Tagan 75%+ PSU, then use it as 24hrs. Good PSUs remain good even on low load. No point in selling it and losing money again.

I plan to run my rig on current PSU(generic ibal 450w). and generated some cash by selling tagan

Don't do that! A generic PSU (some Mron make) I used to run my older Atom based NAS, conked off after 2 months of usage. It was a 450W based unit. Luckily for me, it did not take away any other component with it.

Get an FSP 400W unit in case you do not wish to upgrade your system.

Stick to Tagan. Not just power. It has better quality and takes less power than than of iball which means on the long run you will be able to save money on current bills.

This actually is a good suggestion, any idea about its cost?

Amarbir used to retail the FSP line-up. The 400W used to retail for about 2k IIRC. You can as well opt for the Gigabyte Superb 460W as posted above which's essentially a FSP rebadged unit.
