3. Age of Empires 2 franchise (RTS game) - not sure to call this underrated or lesser known, since it regained quite a bit of popularity eventually but listing since not sure if later generation gamers have had the chance to check this out. - https://store.steampowered.com/app/813780/Age_of_Empires_II_Definitive_Edition/

1. Commandos - Fantastic gameplay mechanics that make completing levels make you feel like a tactical genius. (Just realised the franchise is still going!).
2. Medal of Honor (particularly Allied Assault) - Probably not lesser known, but the series never managed to replicate the success of Call of Duty.
3. Eurotruck Simulator 2: Some people blow stuff up in GTA to escape their lives, some people drive cargo trucks across Europe.
