I had somehow managed to get my hands on a Zalman VF 700 abt a year back but i never tried installing it on my GPU. Now as summers are in I thought of putting it on my system. But i was confronted with two problems.

First problem....



This cable was missing from the package. What it basically does it controls the fan speed. One i belive works with 5volts and Second connector works with 12 Volts. As of now i have a spare CoolerMaster 120 MM Led fan Connector cable or i can directly use the socket on the mobo. My question to you guys is that there wont be any problem if i plan to use the Fan header on the mobo to power up Zalman.

Second and the more serious issue is that since the GPU HSF was a second hand hence used the sticky material on the Ram Sinks had worn off. Now what can be done to make it stick to the GPU memory. Before anybody recommends me Artic Silver Thermal Advisive, I would like to point out this. Its not available in India and its permanent which is a BIG NO. So what can be used to stick the Ram sinks on the GPU.

Thanks in advance. Yes some of you may ask that wasnt the Stock cooler good enough well it was but it was wayyyy too noisy to be heard and way too dirty to be cleaned :P.
 
Duhhh.... I forgot to mention... Its for X850 XT PE and actually the card was with a friend who used to smoke a lot so the Stock GPU HSF has got all that messy stuff inside it... That is why changeing the cooler... Now Thanks for the unwanted suggesstion:bleh:... help me out with the Sticky stuff... Come on guys... Eazy/Deejay where are the pro's :P...
 
Get thermal pads. I think they'd be available at ur nearest electricals shop. The are cheap and will get the job done.
 
Oh yeah.... sorry for going OT, but where can I get that fan thingy which comes bundled with the Zalman??

I had thought of starting a new thread on TE but then Switch started this with the perfect picture :P

Cna someone help me out here??
 
Chaos it will be tough to get it here... Has anybody stotted them in thier respected Cities..
 
3M sells some very good thermal tapes / pads. try to obtain it from ur nearest dealer of 3M products.

else you may try this ....(try this only if you do not get the thermal pads as mentioned above.)
first cover the memory chips with ordinary butter paper / tape such that about 2 mm space is left from all 4 sides, then use feviquick / Super Glue (very minute quantity) on that exposed 2 mm areas. quickly remove the paper / tape and stick on the ram heat sinks.(put some AS5 in the centre of h/s first)
care has to be taken that you do not use too much of the glue since on applying pressure while sticking the heatsinks the glue will spread inwards towards the centre of the memory chip, and since this glue is a good insulator it will make the situation worse. hence do it slowly and carefully.
the heatsinks can be removed in future by applying slight pressure.

switch coolermaster have thermal pads I think you will get them from a coolermaster dealer :cool2:
 
The 3M stuff is actually very good. Was the same thing I was referring to... Just had forgotten the brandname until Deejay posted. Its easily available and should potentially be cheaper than Coolermaster.

Nikhil actually you can get that made locally... You just need to find the right connectors... As of now i am using the onboard... Will try to get the connectors next time i go to Nehru Place :)...

if you dont get 3m your not even going to try for a coolermaster?
 
lol i will try for CM mostly as i know the guys welll... Later will try for 3M and finally if nothing works then Dj's plan... I beleive sanday was scared for a while :P...
