ACT says fiber cable to home will cause interference for other users' speed

So yesterday a guy from act fibernet called me and asked if I'd be interested in paying 3 or 6 months in advance instead of monthly bill, so that they will give a "free" router. I asked what router and it's archer c5. But since I already have archer c6, i denied saying i have a better model.

He went on to discuss how their router is better as it will have act fiber custom firmware and router will resolve internet issues on its own and restarts itself automatically as well.

But during the discussion something strange he said...I asked why they are not offering fiber cable to home and he said - with fiber cable if someone uses high internet speeds there will be interference and other users' speed might decrease under heavy load. With LAN cable to home it doesn't cause such issue..

I'm wondering if this is some high level info I didn't know or he is just saying false info.

He's bullshitting you, either knowingly or unknowingly. Nothing like that happens. On the contrary, using copper cables will lead to interference because they transmit data using electrical signals. Fiber uses light and each connection has its own channel. Practically no interference.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing he might have been trained like that. Entire act fiber team says this is the best way to cover up their no fiber method.

Lately I've observed that there is no internet as soon as powercut happens. I've complained to them no response yet. I'd have to switch isp, but damn no one offers this 300 mbps @ 1075+gst.

Yeah, probably part of the training.

What's your location? I know Excitel has cheaper plans but cheaper also probably means worse service.

Hyderabad. Excitel is available in my area, but "service" is what keeping me away from it. Though their plans are too good, delay in resolution will cause problems for office work. Act and Jio usually resolve in few hours, airtel takes 1-2 days.

I too received similar call but as I was not interested, did not get to the router part of the call.
AFAIK ACT has always provided fiber to the building with a box installed that gets power supply from one of the residents giving them 50/- discount on their bill, Even I had power cut for 4 hours yesterday and the battery in the box lasted exactly 3 hrs.
Customer care guys don't know the basics of networking, couple of days ago I complained about high latency to overseas servers and they say they can't do anything about it but just refresh the connection from their end.(It was actually an issue with Tata Comm’s network https://anuragbhatia.com/post/2025/06/india-europe-high-latency/)
Pings are still not great compared to airtel or jio, I used to get 120-150ms on all European servers and 50ms to Singapore now they have all increased by 30-50ms

As you are from Hyd as well can you ping the following servers and post the results to compare
sg.windscribe.com (80ms)
fr.windscribe.com (155ms)
uk.windscribe.com (178ms)

I raised ticket for the same issue that there is no internet during powercuts and UPS must be installed to the box. They closed the ticket after few hours saying that my internet is working. Agree they don't seem to have clue about what issue customer is saying.

For us they said fiber line comes till box and from box to home it is LAN. As per their customer care guy, all other isp are giving fake fiber line to home which gives bad connection and interference compared to their cat 5e cable.

If they don't resolve the powercut backup issue, i have to see what options I have.
For me regarding pings and latency, Act~Airtel>bsnl>local isp>jio.

Jio had worst latency and ping, but outage was very very rare and they resolve in max half an hour.

Our home connection is Excitel. What plans are they offering you? I'm stuck on Rs 1100 for 80mbps/2TB for about seven years now, there's no upgrade or discount available. It sucks, but I need a backup for my Airtel, which has a broken fiber issue about once every month (lots of construction in my area).

Oof, that does not sound like a good idea for uptime at all

You should close that connection and get a new one. The options are much better now: https://www.excitel.com/broadband-plans/

Same plans as @mr.stark 's reply.
Seems quite good for the price, on paper.

How come airtel has a broken fiber issue for many people? Same used to happen for me as well, even though not so much construction in my area.
