Recently, Zopo had launcher it's ZP900 phablet running on Android in India. And just merely a week later, Zopo introduces a new flagship phablet, packing a 5.7" HD display instead. In case you're wondering, Zopo is one of the big Android manufacturers from China. Only recently have they started selling their products officially in India. Read on to find out more.
Zopo ZP950
The Zopo ZP950 is Zopo's answer to big screen android devices, i.e. phablets such as the Galaxy Note II by Samsung. Packing a 5.7" HD display, you start to think that it's on the right track. But where to draw the line between a phablet and just a humongous device not meant to be used as a phone? We'll find out soon, or at least we can hope for that. Don't want 7" tablets becoming the new flagship smartphones now do we.

Display, Battery & OS
Considering the display to be of IPS make, for a Rs. 15,999 device we really are impressed. The pixel density works out to be somewhere around 257 ppi, which isn't all that bad either. 5.7" is a bit on the larger side, but for people looking for a Note II like experience at just about 40% of the price, this is the only way to go.
1 GB of RAM is welcome, as well as the huge (and much needed) 2,500 mAh battery. Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean sugar coats the entire package. We are impressed to see Google's (almost) latest OS on the smartphone. We believe that Android 4.2 Jelly Bean will arrive soon enough on these flagship devices (from Zopo) soon. It won't be that hard, considering the jump between Android 4.1 and Android 4.2 isn't that big at all.
Chipset & Multimedia
What is disturbing us is the chipset. While the dual core ARM Cortex A9 based processor is fine, the accompanying PowerVR SGX531 isn't. The GPU can barely cut it at WVGA (800*480) display resolution. At HD, not only will the GPU cry, it will bring down the entire gaming experience of the device. People with gaming in mind, proceed with caution. Meanwhile those looking for a multimedia device for browsing or watching movies shouldn't face much issues. The handset is capable of playing back 1080p media content.

The camera unit is an 8 MP module. While it's high resolution, it can capture only upto 720p video (sorry folks, no 1080p). We would definitely like to see this getting upgraded to 1080p video recording. But then again, that's something that can be done by upgrading the chipset (swapping it for a newer, or better one). A front 2 MP camera facilitates self shots (for those facebook DP uploading lovers, as well as for video calling.
Gaming
That being said, a Rs. 15,999 price tag is pretty cool for a phablet with such high end features. Now if only this came in a 4.7" normal phone size and dimensions, and gets updated to a quad core chipset (with a better GPU), our dreams would have come true. Perhaps the upcoming Mediatek quad core chipset, which packs a powerful PowerVR SGX544 GPU (swapping out the measly PowerVR SGX531 for itself).

Zopo India's site is relatively new, so first time buyers may have some inhibitions. Worry not, Zopo gives warranty with their phones, and while the name hasn't got a lot going for it, Zopo is actually a huge brand and we should consider ourselves lucky that they decided to open shop here in India.
