CPU/Mobo vista and cpuz show only 2 cores for q6600 : ( ??

yea as naga told check bios..its not with you fiddling with bios but some boards take default values as 2 instead of 4..

also for the x6 multiplier there is option called EIST in bios disable that and multiplier will remain constant.it is by default enabled to save power in idle state ;)
 
multiplier is 6x because of EIST
it reduces multiplier when cpu is not loaded...
load it up and multiplier will automatically rise to 9x...
power saving stuff..
as for 2 cores...that is indeed weird...god forbid, but maybe 2 of the cores are just D.O.A. ...

there is no settin in the bios....02.6 version...to setup how many cores to use..

loaded all the default values..
nothin seems to work..

it does show....current ratio value 9 multi..

both xp and vista showiun 2 cores..
 
i formated and intalled vista 64 again...

updated bio to 1613..

nothing has changed.

cant even figure out if its the procy or mobo at fault

If the proccy would have been defective how will BIOS show 8mb cache,2.4ghz?i would suggest u reset BIOS&then see...Why not chk ur proccy&mobo with prime if you have bought from them...they do have testing area...
 
the thing is bought my stuff from mahavir..

and the guys there did say tht theyll cover the stuff themselves for a week..

but dunno if theyll understand..cuz the bios does show the procy properly..
will have to make them check vista .

phew...bunked classes for gettin my pc..
gotta bunk again for getting it repaired now.
so no option left gotta take my cabby there
