Chinese mobile phone manufacturer ZTE has become the world's fifth largest smartphone vendor overtaking RIM .
ZTE announced today , according to IDC's Worldwide quarterly mobile phone tracker , ZTE sold eight million smartphones in Q2 2012 to make its way on the top five list . RIM was fourth on may and has slipped down on the list and due to the dropping sales of its handsets .
ZTE now has 5.2 % share of the worldwide market , just 0.5 % behind HTC and 1.4% behind Nokia . Apple is second largest vendor with 16.9% share and Samsung holds the top spot with 32.6% market share .
The market share of ZTE could grow further in 2013 , as the company will be bringing out new smart phones running Windows Phone 8 .
