Opinions needed :Spice MI-425 : 4"screen, 1GHz dual-sim, 5MP

I've been waiting to buy a decent dual-sim android, this one Spice Mi-425 Price in India | Specifications, Features and Reviews seems to have everything I want.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the amount of RAM it has. (How do I find out how much RAM it has?)
It's got a paltry 140MB of built in storage, but it seems to have everything else the Karbonn A9 does.
1Ghz processor, dual sim, front VGA camera, 5MP autofocus cam on the back, +2000mAh, +4 inch screen and it's said to be upgradable to Android 4.0.

Is it a good buy? Are Spice phones reliable?
Can I take my phone to any repair shop to get it fixed if problems crop up? (Reports online say that Spice's service centres do nothing at all)

Using Spice MI-410 (Rebranded Huawei Ideos X6) since last one year, most of the Spice Smartphones are just rebranded of the other manufacturers. Coming to the point Spice service center pretty much helps you with everything if you have a need of visiting them within your warranty period and in this particular model the display is not good (just 262K), Unknown amount of RAM, Unknown CPU and GPU, internal memory too low.

I'd suggest you to wait for sometime if you want to purchase this device and not straight away jump in it.

Apparently Spice mobiles are made by a Malaysian company called CSL mobiles. It's mentioned on their site that they have a tie up with Spice Global. Also a lot of their phones look similar to the ones released by Spice.
I think the RAM on the phone should be atleast 512Mb, cos that's how much ICS needs, AFAIK. The processor, I suspect, is a variant of the same Mediatek chip all the newish cheap dual sims for Micromax, Spice and Karbonn have.

I was too eager to buy a new phone, and didn't take your advice, and went to the Spice showroom to buy it, but they hadn't even heard of it!
But I'm glad I was forced to wait (like you suggested). It's rumoured that Spice is going to officially launch at least 3 new phones tomorrow, the Mi-355 with a 3.5"screen, Mi-425 with a 4"screen and the Mi-500 with a 5"screen.

I also discovered a thread on XDA developers on the Karbonn A9. People are already working on a custom ROM for it. Maybe that'll get ICS too.

Wait, so the Spice Mi425 is a rebranded Karbonn A9? Is that right?

I need to dig up, this phone looks pretty good.

However, it's available for Rs. 9699 on ebay, without applying any coupons.

I'm sure it'll be even cheaper in the market. If they can afford to sell it for 9699 while paying ebay fees, and courier charges, it should be available locally at about Rs.9500.

You're right.
The processor in all these phones is probably a MSM7227A chip which has an Adreno 200 (enhanced) GPU.

i am also expecting a lot from Mi-500 which is dual sim, dual core 5inch fully loaded (except high res screen and 1GB ram). Thing to look out for is battery backup as even 2250 mAH battery will be drained by 5" screen. Very less or reviews info is available atm for this phone.

There is tegra 2 based micromax phone A85 which isnt good i think. So best specs not necessary make best phones even if they are offered at bargain price. Lets see.

Sorry to say but the Mi-500 does not come with a dual-core processor.

Ordered the Spice Mi-425 on ebay today. Got it for Rs. 8450/- using a 10 percent off coupon.
I wanted the Karbonn A9, but it's price seems to have skyrocketed this week, and with my coupon expiring tomorrow, this was too good a deal to pass up.
The coupon I used : NBIFZSB7J9
And heres the ebay link:
