Budget is 10-15k. My current specs:i5-2500,4 gb ram,21' monitor with 1680*1050 resolution,VX 550W PSU.

Purpose is for gaming.Been out of gaming for about 1-1.5 years.Mainly gonna be playing games like Witcher 2, Mass Effect 3,Skyrim,Hitman Absolution, borderlands 2(when released) in the near future. Also might play any really good fpses that has been released/gonna be released.
Thanks.

hmmm...anything for 15k-under...and how much difference would there be b/w those and the one you guys have mentioned so far..especially with just a 1680^1050 monitor..?Also I doubt I'd be able to play more than the games I've mentioned over the next 1-1.5 years so mainly buying for those only..

Here's a comparison between HD7850 and Under 15k GPU's HD6950 OR GTX560TiAnandTech - Bench - GPU12
Do consider this-You'll be able to overclock HD7850 very easily and it'll boost the performs by 10FPS or so more than what's in the benches. So as latest gen GPU go for HD7850 over those. It's worth it,You won't have to worry for 2 years.

Well it's your choice you know,You're ready to shell out 15k for a gpu so you must be dedicated then why not spend 1k more and be rest assured for next 2 years,Also you'll get good customer sell if you try to sell this gpu after a while,No one will take a 2nd gen gpu after 1.5 years after this.
Hmmm...would it be worth it even if I wont get time to play games other than those I've mentioned over the next 1.5 years..?

Yeah..well my budget is 10-15k.Yeah If I were to buy a 15k card,I might as well shell out another 1k and get the clearly superior card. But what I was wondering was would there be any cheaper alternatives in the 10-15k range(more towards 10) which will do a decent job for the games I've mentioned at my screen resolution.

If you are talking 10k then Sapphire HD6870-11k is a good option but there will be a 10-15 FPS difference between HD7850 and that,You'll get to play games at medium settings. It's your call,I'd recommend HD7850 for your rig.

Hmmm I'll most likely be going for MSI then as it fits exactly at 15k :) .Also do you know if that site reliable for delivery all over India..?I usually use flipkart or nextworld but those dont seem to have this card. Also sorta off topic but got any other game recommendations to add to that list released over last 1-2 years...?Sorta been out of gaming for a while :(

I do not think that even 1 -->3 months of wait will change anything in the price dramas until there is a drastic change in the $ -- Rupee rates.

SMC International is a reliable site [they are based in Nehru Place, New Delhi], just contact them once before confirming your purchase.

What kind of games do you enjoy, genre OR you can go into the Gaming sub-forum to browse through the latest releases.

I would second 7850 especiallly for Witcher 2 as its a graphic whore and an awesome whore at that... :p

Anyways, I take it you enjoy RPGs and shooters going by your first post. Here are the suggestions:
1) Dragon Age Origins (Nov 2009), awakening (middle 2010), and DA2 (late 2010)
2) Mass effect series
3) Battlefield 3 and BFBC2 online
4) Call of duty for single player campaigns (especially modern warfare 1, 2, and 3 and then black ops)
5) Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (Feb 2012)
6) Fable 2 (late 2011)
7) Fallout 3 and vegas if you are into it. Its a few years old game based on the same engine that oblivion was on although modified. Skyrim is also made on the same engine but with HUGE modifications to incorporate HDR and AA at the same time)

Yeah I'm into rpgs...Have played witcher 1,DA series and read all of their books.(Havent been gone from gaming that long just 1-1.5 years).Played ME 1,ME 2 also BC2.Personally think CoD series has gone south since Mordern Warfare.Havent heard or Kingdoms..will definitely check it out..I am more into story/character driven-morally ambigous type rpgs so couldnt really get too much into fallout.I guess Skyrim might be a bit of the same but am gonna play it anyways since it looks so darn beautiful.Would atleast get about 20 hours of fun before getting bored of it.

I guess I would also be checking out Portal 2 and dead space 2,which I was in the middle of playing when my graphics card went kaput.

If you like morality driven systems you must check out The Witcher 2, it is a far, far superior story-driven, character centric A-RPG than Mass Effect and Skyrim; in-fact Skyrim does not have a morality system OR for that matter does not question your choices either. It is like asking a Cake to react to you if you are going to cut it with a knife.

Oh and The Witcher 2 looks a lot more beautiful than either game but Mass Effect 3 and SKYRIM have a much larger and freer environment.

Happy gaming Sire, Cheerio!

Yeah thats the first in the list.Pretty much the main reason for my graphics card purchase.:)

I've got the card...The first time I tried playing witcher 2 with everything at highest setting..started the arena mode and soon got the monitor filled with vertical lines..Second time after disabliing uber sampling after a few mins the screens power went off..The fps seemed ok both the time...My drivers are 12.8...Any Idea whats up..?Anyways I am gonna try cleaning the drivers and reinstalling...

It happened again twice around 10-15 mins in.Once It was the vertical lines filling the screen(the sound comes for a few seconds after this and then goes off and i have 2 restart) and the second time the monitor power went off.The temps were around 70-74 degress the second time so they shouldnt be the problem. When the power went off on restarting I heard sound from motherboard and it wont start, had to turn the poer off and on.Any idea what I can do.Should I remove the factory OC..?

This time the screen just went blank without power going off..within 5-10 mins...again only 70 degrees..And I had disabled overdrive

tried older 12.4 drivers same result :(
